You *should* be single for a while. You need to hit the reset button and reevaluave what you want in men - whats important, whats not. And you won't be able to give everything to a relationship for a while anyway. It wouldn't be fair to whoever you were dating.
I know I need to be single. I WANT to be single but I never realized how many of the males I hang around with are eligable bachelors and that little annoying voice of mine I would like to strangle has started making lists of their good qualities.
I fear failure because it'll mean that I potentially end up in a relationship with a loser because having a warm body to snuggle with becomes more important that intellectual compatability. Or worse, it'll mean I end up in a relathionship with someone who I could be very compatible with but it's just too soon after my last relationship to work out and I ruin a perfectly good friendship.
I fear what failure stands for. But if I can run a marathon or win 1st place a the Odyssey World Finals, I ought to be able to live without a romantic relationship for 6 months, right? Do you think 6 months is reasonable?
6 months should be a minimum. You and Jay dated for a really long time so you need to give yourself enough time to process everything and establish closure. Somepeople take longer, some people take less time. Who knows. Its probably "you'll know when you're ready" thing.
And I can totally understand the warm body thing. I dated a guy, Jeremy, for 2 months even though he was about as smart as carrot peelings. He had the WORST grammar (and that totally drives me nuts), was a compulsive liar, and was chauvanistic. He would attempted to lecture me on things that I clearly knew more about than he did (psychology... everything...). The only reason I kept him around for that long was because he cleaned my apartment for me (and you know how much I need that! *cough*Chernobyl*cough*) and he was someone to cuddle with. So yeah, I can totally understand that. But I think we need to have higher standards for ourselves.
And I would be more concerned over ruining what could be a really good relationship, like you said. That would suck.
We do indeed. Though I miss my dishes always been done with no effort on my part. ;)
Being single really isn't so bad. Romance novels cure most hurts. ;) No really, you've been dating for so long that it might be refreshing to be single for a while. Flirting with strangers is fun. Passing gas in bed is funny. Not showering for 3 days is,..well, gross! but you can do it if you want. LOL Lots of perks.
Don't fear failure!
