My own worst enemy

Feb 28, 2006 11:08

So this is my problem:

I love making web sites. I like the theory behind the visual design, information architechture, database design, and programming techniques. I enjoy editing graphics, programming code, and testing. It's like putting together a puzzle for me and then stepping back to see the nice picture at the end of it all. I even think I'm good at it.

I don't like:
- not knowing where my next pay cheque is coming from
- trying to find work
- trying to sell myself
- talking about money
- billing people
- working at home

What does that boil down to? I want to work for someone else as a perminate web designer (not web master, they do maintence on the same site over and over).

That just isn't a job option. There are so few companies who do that, it's all individual designers and I don't have the experience to get the jobs with the few who are hiring.

I wish I'd knowen this 12 months ago.

Bah.
