June Bug A

Jun 08, 2008 23:02

EDIT: If you've come to see the fic I did for the June bug challenge, allow me to redirect you to my fic journal and the finished story. Please go to read the story there. This post will disappear once Lucy changes her link.

Oh Lucy, I'm so sorry. But my completed story is going to be late. Between the storms and having someone either lurking over my shoulder or hogging the computer on me, I'm just not happy w/ what I have so far.

So rather than have nothing at all, I'm going to post the begining of it here and will add the rest tomorrow while my lurking mother is at work. lol. I'll also move it to the fic journal so everyone can see it, because that's where I prefer to keep my fic. lol.

Musings

It was unusual for the house to be so quiet that Chris could hear him talking on the phone from a room away. “At least I don’t have to search for him.” Chris thought, following the sounds.

“Yes Mom, I know you wanted to be there tonight.” A pause while his mother obviously said something, “Yes, I will remember to tell everyone that you’re sorry and that you send your love.” Another pause. “Mom, you know we really didn’t expect you to attend, it’s just suppose to be a small gathering of close friends and family.” Chris winced, he was sure that statement didn’t go over well. “Mom. Mom. Mom, I didn’t say you weren’t family, of course you’re family. Why wouldn’t you be family?”

He was pacing when Chris finally walked into the room, the phone held close to his ear. Chris crossed the room quickly and plucked the phone from his fingers, “Hi, I’m really sorry to do this, but we’re already running late and I’m going to have to drag him off to get ready. I’ll give everyone your best and we’ll expect to see you at the big party in a couple weeks. Bye.” Chris quickly disconnected the call and tossed the phone on the table.

“Chris, that was rude!”

“I’ve been telling you for years that you need to grow a spine and realize Mother or not, she’s just another person and quit letting her walk all over you.”

“I don’t let her walk all over me.”

Chris just laughed, “You do, but we don’t have time for this discussion. We really are running late.”

“What ever happened to the Chris that never cared if he was late or not.”

“I’m never late for the really important things.”
