Yes, I did this
last year. But it's good to remember why you're thankful.
- Work and education. Yes, I complain about both on a weekly basis, but I'm thankful I'm gainfully employed and that I can pay for my education. I enjoy learning.
- Family and friends. They both help me grow and challenge me to be a better person. I've depended on them so much this year, and I know I'll need to keep depending on them down the road.
- Reliable transportation. Here in A-K-Rowdy, the public transportation system isn't widely used. In fat, I wouldn't know how to give someone directions if they didn't have a car. So I'm glad I have one and that it's reliable.
- A roof over my head. Yes, I'm frustrated with my landlord, but I do love my apartment. I love the wood floors and the warmth of the rooms. I'm thankful that I have my pick of where to live, and that I don't have to worry about it on a daily basis.
- Books. I'd die without having a book to read every day. Okay, that's a bit extreme, but I love books. I ask for them all the time and truly treasure them.
- Phones. They let me keep in touch with friends throughout the world. I like writing letters, but making a phone call is a bit easier sometimes.
- Along the same line - the internets. Yes, there's two of them. Sometimes, email and Facebook are better than phone calls. Okay they're easier. It can take me a couple days to put together an email, and that's fine. Plus, I can read everyone's blogs. :-)
- Opportunities. We have so many opportunities in the States. I can't possibly do it all, but I have all the choices in the world.
- Homemade dishes. I'm so thankful my mom actually made dinners for us instead of making microwave dinners. I appreciate the time and effort she put into them. One day i'll have to raid her recipe book so I can make some of her meals.
- Faith, religion, and my church family. I have so much love and support from my church family. Each week I am challenged in a new way and I know that I've grown because of them. I am thankful that through all my doubts and wondering why I keep going back, something happens to remind me that God is so good.
- The gym. I haven't been able to go for the past couple days, and I definitely can tell. I love working out to get rid of stress. I love the feeling of accomplishment I have when I'm able to lift more weight than I thought I could, or I perform better than I did last week.
- College basketball season. My fav sports season of the whole year. I had a huge project due last week and it was very difficult to concentrate on homework while watching basketball. I can't wait for March.
- SteelersBoy. (awwww) Yeah, he's pretty much the greatest thing ever. He constantly challenges me and helps me grow. Your significant other should always challenge you to be a better person, and he definitely does that. I always feel loved and I know I can depend on him for advice and encouragement.
I feel like some of this is kindergarteny (if that's a word) but there's a reason we come back to the basics when we list things for which to be grateful. We take them for granted to a degree, and it's good to think about them, especially on Thanksgiving.
