13 Fav School Pics

I took an Intro to Photography class last year. I am not an expert photographer, but it helped me appreciate photography even more, and gave me the direction I needed. It was a 5 week course, and we used 35mm SLR cameras. I'd had my own digital point and shoot for 6 months or so, and I really missed the instantaneous feedback. I really loved the course, though, and wish it was longer. We shot at least 42 pics per week, so I have a decent number of pics to choose from. Here are a few of my favorite pics.

These sit on stands on a coffee table in my living room, but I played around with them a bit on a black chair. I like the concept, but I'm not crazy about the actual picture.

This was taken during the same week as the candles above. I liked the contrast of the shoe colors on black, and had to play around with the angles a bit before I found something I liked.

This was an outside exercise during class to teach us panning. I didn't really get the hang of panning, but it was nice to be outside.

Taken during the same panning exercise. I like how it forces you to follow the lines of the photo.

I went to my parents house to try to take shots of my brother playing basketball, and ended up taking a few pics of him and the dog. It's technically part of the panning exercise, but really they're just fun shots.

This is a fun shot because it looks like he's off the ground. My prof loved the look of the ball in his hands. He called it an orb.

Vacation coincided with this class, so I got to take pics in a different environment. This house is on the street where we vacation, and it's probably my favorite one. It really reminds me of vacation and summer. I love the blue, yellow, white, and pale wood, but I couldn't get the best angle. Honestly, I needed to be on the second floor of a house across the street to get the best angle.

We also had to take pics of "unusual" items and angles...things you wouldn't normally see, and I thought a blue outhouse in the middle of green trees qualified as unusual. I don't think my prof quite saw it that way, but I love it anyway.

More of unusual items and angles: a grill. I'd venture to guess that most of you don't look at this part of a grill...at least not at this angle.

I didn't even have to arrange this, my brother had done it for me when he got back from playing tennis. Hooray for spotting the perfect shot.

It's hard to see, but there's a spider here. I was trying to get the web, the spider, and the background. I probably could've used an entire roll just on this shot.

Nothing flashy about this one, it's just a bike. But it's almost whimsical to me.

And this is one of my fav pics of the lake. I love the colors and the shore and the flag in the distance. This is vacation for me. Watching the sunset over the water.
