Fixing Things

A few days after I got back from New York, RJP told me my tire looked low. So I put air in it that evening, purchased a digital tire gauge a few days after that, and kept an eye on it. A week ago, I noticed that my front right tire was very low (17 psi) and put air in it that night. I came out of Mass Sunday, and saw that my front left tire was low (22 psi). This was shaping up to be very bad. I called the shop that afternoon and made an appointment for Monday morning. I was really worried, though, because my tires were almost a year old, I didn't buy the extended warranty, and nothing was going to be covered. I figured I was going to have to buy new tires, but fortunately I didn't have to! They just replaced the valves on both tires, removed buildup, and sent me home. Now I have some sort of lifetime warranty on them, which hopefully means that I won't have problems with them again.

Several months ago...towards the beginning of the year I think...I bought a 250 GB external hard drive. I figured it'd take me awhile to fill it up, but I would definitely use it. It was small and portable, and I found many uses for it, including work. A coworker made a comment to me, "What happens if the drive fails?" and my response was, "It can't, my whole life is on there." Which is a slight exaggeration, but is also true. It contains all my pictures, music, resumes, school projects, taxes, bills, budget, etc. Basically, my life. Wouldn't you know that it stopped working almost a week after he asked me? The guys at work looked at it and determined that the USB portion failed. Thankfully I was able to recover all my data. Now I have to figure out what to buy next, but I'm looking at this. Sure two terabytes might be a bit extreme, but it allows for RAID mirroring, so I can back up my data. Plus, it's compatible with a PC and a MAC.

At the beginning of the month, perhaps earlier, I started closing windows in the apartment. It was getting cold, and while it wasn't quite time to turn the heat on, it also wasn't time to "enjoy" the fresh air. But, one of my kitchen windows would't close. For awhile I thought it was just me, until the maintenance guy couldn't close it either. Phew, I'm not weak. The window is just stronger. He ordered a new window, and I've been waiting. Mind you, the landlord sucks at communication. Our last landlord wasn't so good at it either, and it's hard for me to say who's worse. I've been calling weekly for the past couple weeks to check on the status, and naturally the secretaries don't know, and they don't seem to do any follow-up work to find out. I called Wednesday and they knew nothing. I called yesterday morning and they knew nothing, but were "going to check." Right, like all those other times you were going to check. So I called yesterday afternoon, and they ended up "calling the store (window) themselves" (you couldn't do this last week?!) and found out the windows are coming in next Tuesday! Yay! So in the meantime, I've ripped apart a cardboard box, and taped it to my window. It's one of the craziest window displays I've ever seen, but it keeps the cold air out. Hopefully the new windows do an even better job of that.
