This Could Be Rather Controversial

I think that we can agree that men and women think differently. I witness this day in and day out at work, where one of the guys is dumbfounded that his wife spent $300 on a basket (I'm not exaggerating) and she doesn't understand what the big deal is. Women like to talk through problems and go over them multiple times; men like to discuss the problem once and be done with it. Men like to be in charge; women let them think they're in charge to make them happy.

So if women and men think differently, why would we think that doesn't apply to the way they learn and the subjects they want to learn? Gerald linked to this article that talks about applying Title IX to academics. That's right. Instead of allowing students to choose which subjects they'd like to study, and being satisfied, some groups would like to make sure there is a proportionate number of women in the classes as well. If Title IX is applied to academics the way it has been applied to sports, some classes would no longer be offered, because there aren't enough women interested in that class. Talk about backwards! Shoudln't we offer classes to our students that are willing to learn them? Don't we want to educate our children (college-aged or not) so that they can compete in a global economy? I love sports, and I'm not crazy about Title IX eliminating teams, but this is much much much bigger than a competetive game. This will affect lives, jobs, businesses, and our country! I am all for equality within the workplace, within jobs, etc., but this goes too far.
