I'm taking the whole house

I’m surfing the internets at work today. It’s not that I don’t have work to do. No, that really is it. I don’t have anything due, nothing pressing, nothing imminent. I could probably go weeks without doing any real work and that’d be fine. No one would notice. So I’m surfing, occupying my time. I’ve gotten pretty good at it.

I stumbled across Indie Bloggers the other day. Clink posted there, so today I decided to peruse the entries. Because there are many bloggers posting, and not just one, it’s probably the most interesting blog I’ve read. I don’t mean that in a bad way, but since the point of view changes with each entry, you click “Previous” (or Next) with excitement. Who wrote this time? What did they write about? What is their writing style? These bloggers are good. They have to be; there’s a group of people dedicated to reading entries and deciding if they’re good enough. One of these days I’ll send something in. Now, I’ll just peruse.

This post got me thinking. If I could take a handful of stuff (note that I’m using the word loosely) with me in a fire, what would I take?

  • My books. Jeffrey Archer, Lori Wick, Mitch Albom, David Baldacci, Augusten Burroughs, Jack Higgins, Tom Clancy, Jane Austen, L.M. Montgomery, Nick Hornby, John Grisham, Margaret Mitchell, David Sedaris, Louisa May Alcott. I live through my books.
  • My laptop, iPod, and camera. Really if I have my laptop, I could survive without my iPod. I’d just get another one. And my pictures are all on my laptop. But I love my camera. Love love love it. Even though I want another one. One of those $1000 cameras with interchangeable lenses and a crazy amount of settings. But I still love my camera.
  • My film pictures, especially the ones I took for school.
  • My red, green, purple, nude, and black bras. I like to have a variety. The red and black bras are the same style (Very Sexy Pushup With No Padding), but the black one has lace. The green, purple, and nude ones are the same style (Angels Infinity Edge with Lace). I just like having options. Mind you, I’ll be leaving at least 10 other bras behind. I probably need to go through my bra collection and throw out the super old ones that I don’t wear.
  • All matching thongs for the above bras. And the cute boy shorts.
  • My Boston coffee cup. And my matching 8 coffee cups.
  • My Corelle dishes. They were my parents, and while there’s not a ton of sentimental value to them, I love the fact that they’re super durable. The serving dishes my mom just bought me that I’ve never used.
  • My Express jeans. And the jeans that I can take off without unbuttoning or unzipping. They’re super comfortable.
  • Both pairs of red shoes. My boots. My black pointy-toed shoes. My pink flip-flops. A pair of strappy sandals.
  • My Boston sweatshirt. My red Aero hoodie. My red and gray sweatshirt.
  • My blue dress. My green dressy shirt from Express that’s ridiculously see-through and low-cut, but I look damn good in it. My black V-neck sweater. My blue Isaac Mizrahi tank-top. My black and white dress. My black leather and suede jacket. My khaki jacket. My red and white shirt.
  • The bottles of wine sitting on my dining room table.

Evidently I’d be taking my entire house. At least a good portion of it. I’m materialistic it seems. I know that if there really was a fire at my apartment building I wouldn’t be able to rescue this stuff. It would all be gone. But it’s nice to dream.

thoughts, apartment, life, random
