Art World Rumbling

For the most part, I happily reside in a secure little recess of the art world where people want to improve and like seeing their art progress. Some of these people go to school for art, some are mere hobbyists who get satisfaction from noticing jumps in their skills, and some are embodiments of the agony and ecstasy of the artistic lifestyle in their sufferings and joys on their creative journeys.

Sometimes, however, I come across people who remind me that there are some shameless twats who like to call themselves artists, but don't feel they need to work to earn the title. I'll be honest, as someone who may not pursue art as a career but still strives to improve with every piece, comments like this nauseate me:

"i know how critiques are suppose to "help" you "improve" but im not one to like any critizing. to me they're kinda wasting their times. Some dont even know how to draw themselves to instead of critqueing other ppl who can draw maybe they should try it out for themselves for once. they're telling about something you already know about so why bother. Besdies i'll improve myself not because some ppl dont like it or think its not good. drawing relaxes me so yeah theres no point. Course i do want better artwork."

To quote this style tutorial, "Saying, 'I do this for fun, I don't want to improve or be professional' to brush off the occasional critique isn't the best move because most, if not all of us are doing this for fun, whether they are professionals or hobbyists. And if noticing that 'Dayumn, I've gotten better!' isn't in your definition of 'fun,' I start to wonder where you're from."

I think I'll duck back into my world of artistic integrity now, kthx.
