Prince-less Saturday
Well, after a full working week of Prince-minding, he's now back with my sister. It's amazing how much he has grown as a sentient being. He watches for people quietly, but can differentiate easily between people, and even the sounds those people make. He became fully aware of his surroundings (an MDF playpen my dad made for him) and tried his best to jump the high walls. He is eating with more purpose and actually seems to enjoy the food, rather than just compulsively eating.
Of course, it's not all good. His teeth and claws grow ever sharper. He has decided he really does not like to be washed, and makes his views on the subject well known with the aforementioned teeth and claws. He also really dislikes the flash on my camera, and there is something rather disconcerting about being stuck on the floor, trying to get a photo from a nice angle, with an angry five week old bull terrier jumping at your face with sharp claws, growling like a dying dyson hoover.
On the plus side, some of the photos turned out nicely...and here they are!
As you can see, he's really grown. I looked up some photos of other baby bull terriers the other day, and they all seemed to be much fatter. In some ways this worries me, but he's so healthy looking, whereas the other puppies looked rather like unhealthy blobs. He's so alert and happy looking, I think we're doing right.
In other news, my official term start is Monday. I've been working hard to try to minimise this years course load, though, so I actually have almost completed a third of it so far. I ordered a book called Eye of the Beholder which is a study of deformity and disability in ancient Greece and Rome...really enjoying it. It is exactly the kind of stuff I'd like to be writing.
For the first time in my life I have sent a letter to a newspaper...although it's the motoring section of the telegraph. There have been rumblings about James May's column and I felt I had to leap to the defence. If it's published I shall post it here next week.
