Don't you hate how computer models get upgraded after you've bought a new one for yourself? This has happened twice for me. I guess the pace of technological change is so fast that upgrades will be almost constant. That's a good thing. Just think about what we'll be able to do in a decade's time. Still, it stinks to spend thousands of dollars only to find that you could've gotten something much better if you'd waited.
I have one of Apple's MacBook Pros and have been very happy with it. I love Macs, especially the laptops. They're really good for digital photography and graphics stuff. My Mac did cost me a good chunk of change, though, and I had to save up for a long time. I've had it for a little over a year. Today Apple just announced a new line of MacBooks and MacBook Pros. I would've loved to have some of the new features, like the multi-touch trackpad and faster processor. Now that the new features are out there, I feel like my old MacBook Pro was a waste of money. It seems obsolete after just one year. Yes, that's irrational of me--but I can't help it! I'm a geek. My summer job was an internship in a computer lab.
Here's the picture that's up on the Apple website. There is always a lot of hype around new Apple products. The promotional videos on the website are hilarious. They show laptops opening all slowly, in what's supposed to be a tantalizing way. They also have slow panning shots of the laptop body. I guess we're all supposed to take this stuff seriously.
I think that constantly wanting a new computer is just another form of materialism, which I despise. I need to stop.
What kind of computer do you use for your writing? I know that a small number of writers still use typewriters. Do you ever find yourself frustrated by the constant upgrades that computer manufacturers do?
