The sky is falling

It's raining today. It rained yesterday and the day before and the day before that. In fact it has been raining for the better part of two weeks on a daily basis. And it is not a gentle shower but hard driving torrential rains. Georgia only a year ago was in the midst of a drought that was being talked about around the world. Our water was running out and there was talk of rationing water supplies as lakes and rivers withered and died. Global warming was striking with a fury and the earth was growing parched. That was then, Now it is raining again and again and again with an almost biblical fury as streets flood turning into new river courses; the great Chattahoochee is cresting over its banks; cars are being swept away carrying people, children even to their watery deaths. Right now outside my window the rain is coming in beneath the walls, seeping in through any opening it can find. The gutters have become useless, serving only to create weight on the roof before they come loose and fall away. They say... The weather people, that the rains will continue to fall for days to come.

And in my morbid sense of aesthetics I am enthralled.
