Okay, so here I am in the Bone Student Center at ISU, reading Facebook and LiveJournal. At the moment, I'm bored silly. Why? Because I'm between assignments in my Java class and fresh from a mid-term in my Database class (that, frankly, I didn't do as well on than I'd like).
So I thought I'd do a bit of an update, since I haven't done that in a while...
Overall (neverminding that mid-term), I'm doing well in my classes. Database Processing (the class that really matters, in terms of my graduation) is going well, though it's not perfect. Not just the mid-term, you understand - there's this team project that I'm perturbed with. The grades we've been getting so far are good enough, but we're not really functioning as a team - there are whole sections of the project that I never actually see, whereas we're supposed to be working together on the wholething, reviewing our collective work. I think that the others on this team are just going through the motions to a great extent. So much for scholarship.
The Java class is going very well. My only problem in that class is that it seems to be going very slowly - it's billed as a course for those who have previous programming experience, but you'd never know that, given some of the problems that many of the students are having. In the meantime, I'm jumping ahead of the class conceptually, integrating design concepts in my assignments that the class hasn't covered yet (for those who know Java, I used inner classes in my last assignment. Whee!)
In other news, I was originally asked by Toyboat (a band I produced last year) to perform with them on keyboards at Windycon, backing Tom Smith (the total act being called Tomboat). However, once we started rehearsal, they decided to ask me to join the band in that capacity on a permanent basis. Be afraid, bevery afraid...
And I've been doing a bit of programming work on the side, though it's been hard finding the time to squeeze that in.
So there you have it...
