I considered be-friending you just for shits and giggles, but then decided that's harsh.
I'm currently staring at my flist and shaking my head. Once a relatively panic free list has now been inundated with panic crap. And yes, it's mainly negative.
Bands do have the right to split up when they please and to choose different creative paths. It's music for them, not music for the masses. If they are after something that will never change and will remain constant they should look up britney spears or pink.
It all comes back to that bizarre sense of obligation that fans seem to have, namely that these artists somehow 'owe' them something on the grounds that they're fans who've supported them.
Have you ever seen the South Park episode with Britney Spears? Ignoring whether you like Britney or not, they make a very valid point about the public tendancy to build a celebrity up to dizzying, impossible-to-maintain heights and then take the first opportunity that presents itself (generally when said celebrity fails to live up to these impossible standards) to rip them to shreds. I am continually amused by this fandom idea of "I like X better than I like Y; he's just a much nicer person and Y is a bit of a twat." Um, fangirl? You don't know them. Either of them. Please stop talking

I agree. We don't know these guys. We can guess what happened, how long it's been going on, who made the final decision, etc., but we don't actually know. In my eyes, there isn't anyone to blame. They all are adults and can do whatever they feel like. If they want to make different music, so be it.
It sucks for me, us, fans, because we want the guys to all make music together, but who knows what will happen. It might be better, or worse, but that's unknown for now.
We all get so wrapped up this world we've created for them, by writing and/or reading fic, that I think we forget that they actually control their own lives, not us. When we realize, oh hey, that's not what I thought/wanted them to do, we freak. Some people just get crazier than others.
I don't have any problems with any of the boys. I wish they didn't do drugs, but that's a personal issue. I'm just here for the music.
I agree we have no clue what happend, who decided what and all but yeah i hate seeing all the bashing. Especially on how everyone came to the conclusion that it was either all Ryans fault or Jons fault. I just want them to be happy. I am sad just because if the drug issue is true i worry about them.
