Coming up for air...

It seems like it's been forever since I posted anything here. Life has been a bit crazed the past few months and I just kind of got swept up in the avilanche. Between family, work and all, I've barely had any time for myself to breathe.

First, Mom had to have her other hip operated on. We knew that it was something that was probably going to happen given her arthritis, but starting last fall she was in severe pain and it was only getting worse. Having a second hip replacement was unquestionably needed. She had the surgery earlier this month and the first few days of her recovery was really hard, but she's only gotten better every day. I took a week off from work to care for her at home until she was more self-sufficient, but it wasn't exactly a restful week. But now life is starting to get back to normal at home.

To cap off all this, my boss dropped a bombshell on me earlier this year. He got an amazing offer professionally, but it means him relocating to Florida to become the head of a cancer center for a major university. It's a huge oppertunity for him, but it's going to be very traumatic for our patients. He's been treating some of them for nearly twenty years. A few will follow him to Florida, and we have several who live out of state and will just adjust where they travel to when they see him. All the others though... we're assigning them to other doctors at my hospital but I'm waiting for all the phone calls when they start recieving their letters. It's going to be... interesting.

And as for me... I'm not going to be left high and dry. I still have three other doctors I work with, and will probably just be assigned another physician. But I'm also keeping my eye out for other positions. A change for me as well might be in order.

But in happier news, I'm actually taking a real vacation this year. Yes, getting on a plane and everything. I had promised my niece a trip overseas for her high school graduation and we're a year late but we're going. A week and a half in beautiful Spain. We're going to Seville, Cordoba and Madrid. And I am the hotel booking queen. I didn't win MegaMillions, so I don't have an unlimited budget. Still, I managed to book our hotels and the total cost for nine nights is going to be less than a thousand dollars. My niece is, needless to say, very excited. As for me... two weeks away from work. I haven't taken a full two weeks off in one time in years. Really need this trip.
