Well, the hotel has changed hands, sort of.

Hilton agreed to make all of their Bay Area properties union as a part of the settlement of the SF hotel strike. Then they sold all of their Bay Area properties to a management company, who then sold them to Hilton LLC, a subsidiary, thus getting around the agreement.

This did two things:
1. made their ability to get things like 8' tables very limited, and
2. put the management into a very penny wise, pound foolish mode

I swear they hired their management team from failed Motel 6 properties. They think that mundane business meetings are "better" (more profitable) than conventions with heavy restaurant traffic.

I have a feeling that the hotel will either A) change hands again during the coming year, or B) fold completely.

I really pity FurCon and PantheaCon - both way bigger than SiliCon, and the stupid hotel is planning on having "Sprigs" only open for breakfast. I envision riots, personally.

But seriously, this is the second time that SiliCon has been fucked over by hotel-made changes that we weren't told about until they were a done deal.
