Title: Polar Opposites
Pairing: Kahlan/Cara

So, why do I ship these two? There are many and one reasons, but here are the most important "why's":

First of all Kahlan and Cara just have that 'thing' going on. The certain chemistry two characters in a show need to make the air burn around them. A single look, one glance and one immediately knows that there's so much more going on than anyone would've ever thought possible.
Right in the beginning of season two there's this moment between them when they stare at each other and communicate without a single word.
Kahlan's inner voice: 'I'm watching you.'
Cara's inner voice: 'Oh yeah, I know.'

And even though there's still all this 'I'm your mortal enemy' and distrust thing going on, one could've already guessed that their relationship was going to develop in very interesting ways (since it has also been established early on that Cara isn't afraid of her own sexuality/sensuality).

Another aspect of Kahlan and Cara's relationship is the fact that they are meant to destroy each other. Normally they would've already engaged in a fight til death, but due to some intervention from a certain Seeker they're forced to tolerate each other. It all comes to a boiling point when Cara admits that she's killed Kahlan's sister. Reason enough for the Mother Confessor to exact her revenge. But instead of getting rid of the woman who's made her the last Confessor, Kahlan pardons Cara in a scene that involves more staring and soul-searching than ever before.

It's wonderful to see that a careful friendship devleops between them from an uneasy companionship. As soon as Kahlan and Cara are forced to travel only by themselves they're like the perfect match in battle. Not only do they have each others back but Cara touchingly takes care of the injured Mother Confessor. And seriously, who doesn't love the whole 'I'm gonna use my Agiel to close the wound on your inner thigh' scene? Cara's admiration and Kahlan's silly grin before she faints are cute and amazingly intimate at the same time. I'm guessing that the writers of the show had caught on with the potential of their relationship and were using it from then on to put some more ambiguous signals into the series.

Which leads to one of the need-to-see episodes, namely the one where they get trapped in a tomb. A sticky hot tomb that causes Kahlan to take off her jacket. And a tomb with lack of oxygen that makes Cara confess her ~feelings. She also attempts to kill herself in order to save her 'friend'.
I mean really? 'I consider you to be my friend' - coming from Cara is the closest to a love confession we'll ever get. Oh except for when she told the whisp that she loves Richard and cares about Kahlan and Zedd too.
But let's indulge in some Kahlan/Cara in a tomb for a moment.

So to wrap this up, there are also some feelings in the night whisp episode where it comes down to mommy number two (Cara) to save the whisp because mommy number one (Kahlan) has hurt her ankle. The smile she's rewarded with at the end of the episode kinda reveals that Cara seems to become more comfortable with showing her feelings in front of Kahlan.
And even though in the end the world is saved from the Keeper Cara does not put on her happy face when Richard and Kahlan kiss enthusiastically. In fact she looks a little agonized instead. So thank you dear LotS crew for giving us hope and then cancelling the show. I'm still crying inside.

Thanks for readin'.
