Avatar!
I am two episodes from the very end, the last two episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender, ever. This is both intensely happy-making, because FINALE to end all finales, and the others have hardly been quiet -- but, but. But that will mark the end of a very happy year of Avatar-ing, and being quietly caught up in the power and grace of the characters' divergent stories... As well as how very much the characters do not take themselves seriously at all, keeping firm grasps on the ideas of kidhood and all idiocy accompanying, while the show takes them very seriously, or at least, most of the time. "The Ember Island Players" being the most glorious episode-length exception to that rule. I lost count of how many in-jokes there were, from within and outside of the Avatar nations, including several manga shout-outs, a definite debt to Reboot!'s final, euphoric, glorious 5-minute Satyricon, and at least one nod to Shakespeare (hellooooooo Ariel!), or possibly two if you count Toph's case as an actual miscasting. Which it's ...kind of not. Heh.
But nonetheless, after this week the whole series, with its flying bison, awesome fight scenes, and fallible, wonderful people, will be done -- I will have watched them all. I will miss it. But then I can turn back the pendulum... and start over from the beginning.
