Marco is secretly a virgin

Well, I mean, I don't think it's all that much of a secret. They were thirteen to begin with, and world-saving doesn't really leave much time for getting laid. Within the series itself he never really had much luck with girls, at least that we saw . . . And I mean, if he didn't have bigger things on his mind he probably would've pretended he wasn't a virgin, not outright lied but just sort of acted like it and sidestepped around questions. It wouldn't be a big deal or some huge shocking reveal, and Rachel probably would make a comment about how she's not all that surprised.

Now, if he were still secretly a virgin well after the war . . . That could be interesting. The guy's a famous billionaire war hero, he's surrounded by supermodels, he could probably have more or less any girl he wanted . . . and yet, he's very determinedly not going all the way. Sure, he'll have a snog and a grope with some groupie at the back of a club, but he never goes farther than that. There are a couple reasons it could be.
A) My inner Marco/Rachel shipper is screaming at me, so I'll just get this out of the way. Pining for lost not-quite-love? Maybe.
B) The whole world just sort of assumes he's not a virgin. Everything about him, every detail of his life from his dental records to his grade school report cards, is everywhere, anyone could pick up a book or go to Google and read about it. So having this one little detail, a tiny secret that he gets to keep -- that's something he needs to have.
C) He's famous, he's a billionaire. He could have anything he wanted with a snap of his fingers, anything at all. So denying himself one thing -- sex -- that's how he stays grounded. That's how he stops himself from turning into a complacent rich guy who forgets that not everyone has it so easy. (Not that he'll ever forget, but he's scared he might.)
D) He's lost too much innocence already. He thinks that if he loses any more, he might forget what that means.
E) Sexual orientation crisis. He's still a teenager, after all, and fighting alien invasions doesn't leave much time for exploring your sexual identity. Maybe he's even ace or demisexual. (I can honestly really see Marco as demisexual. He can see the attractive features, and as a thirteen-year-old knows that he's supposed to like them, so he tries to chat them up. But surrounded by supermodels he realizes that he doesn't care for any of them. He just wants someone he can bond to emotionally, which is something he hasn't really had since Eva died/left. There's Jake, of course, and the rest of the Anis, but they were his fellow soldiers. Any of them could have died any time and he couldn't bring himself to connect with them. He couldn't lose someone he was so close to again.) Whoops, got a bit off topic there.
F) He's waiting for the right person/wants his first time to be with someone he cares about/just isn't ready yet.

That's true about his not having time for sex during the war. I forgot about that. :P

Oooh, those are all plausible theories. I especially like B, C, and D - the idea of Marco having the outward appearance of "wealthy bad boy" but being good/innocent/grounded at heart fits his character and is something that really appeals to me. Hell, they all appeal to me.
