Ok flist, if any of you aer staying in a hotel, please be so kind as to remember that the poor person doing turn-down service is just doing their job. If you don't want to be disturbed, fine. But in that case please use the "DO NOT DISTURB" sign (it's not that hard to miss, it's generally pretty big and bold and red) - it'll save the poor person ( Read more... )

Well, we were sitting in the office enjoying the frozen cokes I'd just run down to 7-11 to get, when we heard this noise coming from out in the bar/restaurant area. This is located just behind the reception area but is only used for breakfast now, and if the managers or receptionist want a coffee; pretty much the only person that goes through there after 4pm is the valet to go through to the kitchen. Anyway, we thought maybe someone (else of staff) had come in the back way so we went to meet them, but the area was still all dark and whatever as we'd left it. However, one of the stools at the window table had been left out, and when I pushed it back in we realised that's what the noise was. Which may not seem that big a deal when you don't work there - but at this hotel everything always has to be just so: if you use a chair that guests would use, you make sure it's pushed back in and if someone leaves it out you push it back in. So in other words that stool would have to have been pushed in prior to us hearing that sound because I ( ... )

No one's really been there long enough to know anyone, except maybe Trev in maintenance who's been there for a couple of years I think. But, you know, it's Melbourne. Maybe they used to have a convict detention centre thingie or something cool there. Who knows? :)
