James Hawkins was born to Leland and Sarah Hawkins on the small planet Montressor, part of the Queens Empire and located on the middle ring of the Etherium (a space like place that has an actual atmosphere to it, and not like normal space at all).
The boys parents were very young when they married, his father just 19, a charmer and brash young man, his mother barely 17 and a romantic. They married and had Jim, a bit too soon for either of them. Leland was unprepared to raise a family and thus was never very close to them. He tried for a while, the little family opening an inn on the outskirts of Montressor, but Leland just couldn’t cut it. Jim was very fond of his father, to an extreme point of idolizing him, but the man just never stuck around long enough for him.
Jim did everything he could to win the praise of his father. He worked hard around the inn at such a young age, or studied hard for him. He did anything just to get the slightest indication that he was making his father proud. If he was given a toy, no matter how beat up or used, he would treasure it with all his heart, because it was from his father.
When Jim was eight years old he heard his mother crying at a table in the inn. When he investigated, he saw his father, a pack on his back, leaving for the last time. He didn’t even say good bye; he just took off and that was that. Jim never saw the man again. He felt hurt, betrayed, abandoned and heart broken, feeling as if he just wasn’t good enough for his father to stay around for him. Maybe he didn’t try hard enough? He was devastated.
As he grew older and the fantasies of his father returning started to fade away with the realization that it was a childes dream and would never be true, Jim started to step out of his ‘hurt’ stage and soon became angry. He was angry with his mother for letting the man leave, for not doing better too, for not stopping him! Jim was also angry at himself for truly not being good enough for the man.
It was at this point that this sweet young boy started to degrade. His grades were slipping, he was skipping school more and getting into so much trouble that he practically had the law codes memorized. He started doing more risky things, running his solar sail board through restricted constructions areas and not caring, diving through turning huge sprockets and moving working machines, just for the thrill of it. He’s had a lot of time with the local Law-bots in the last few years.
While his mother had basically just about given up on him, an etherium ship crash landed on the Inn’s personal docking bay, an old turtle like spacer falling out of it. He was being followed by pirates! “Beware the cyborg” he told Jim before leaving him a round map to something or other and then dying. This beings presence caused the fall of the Inn, invaded by pirates. He managed (with the help of family friend Doppler) to get his mother out and safe, and the three ran away.
They found the round ball to be a map, to the infamous Treasure Planet, a myth or story most have said, as it was so long ago, but in fact it was real. Very real. And they had the map for it now. This was what the pirates were after. Doppler (after convincing Sarah to let her son go) financed the trip and the two boys were soon off to the Etherium ship RLS Legacy.
Upon the ship Jim was pushed off on the cook, John Silver as his cabin boy, not exactly a place he wanted, but it was something. He was told grand stories from Silver, a 50 something year old bear like man of a spacer who had seem a thing or two. He was also a Cyborg, something that Jim at first was trying to be really careful of. The man was missing an arm and a leg. He was leery, but as time went on he started to grow on the man more and more. Grow close to him as if the father role he had been looking for had suddenly been filled.
Silver had a pet named Morph, a globular little pink blob that could morph into any shape it wanted. With this connection, and Silver as a father figure, he was making himself a nice little family.
Too bad Silver was a pirate, and so was the crew. They learned that Jim was the keeper of the treasure map and the only one who could open it. After a long mutiny of the ship and lots of adventures on the planet they were looking for, at long last the treasure had been found. Though while Silver forced Jim to help him find it, he intended the boy to walk away with part of it.
This was not to be though, as Flint, the notorious pirate captain who hid all his gold on this planet had boobietrapped it to self destruct whenever someone stepped into his room of treasures, at the core of the planet. His own body was still there, dead and resting with all his stolen gold.
Even Silver had grown to love the kid, so well that he actually let all the treasure slip away form his robotic fingers just to save the boy from sudden death. The two of them got out, and back to the Legacy, though it had taken damage and wouldn’t be able to get out of there fast enough before the planet exploded. All hope would soon be lost, but Jim had an idea. He would use the Space gates that Flint had used to travel to anywhere in the Etherium. They were still open, though they opened up onto the core of the exploding planet.
Devising a plan he pieced together a solar board with scrap metal and a broken blaster canon. Silver soldered it together, and they gave the plan - turn the ship around and head for the gate. Jim would whiz on ahead, change the location for Montressor Space Port and get them all out of there in a minute!
This is where he will be pulled away from his canon! the rest of the story pretty much follows like this:
Pulling this off and getting the ship and it’s crew through the gate to home, Jim was considered a hero! Coasting the broken down ship towards the space port, Jim said a tearful good bye to Silver, permitting him to escape in a small boat so he didn’t have to stand trial. Morph stayed with him at the time, leaving his long time friend to run away.
He returns home with the crew, a few coins richer thanks to Silver and goes to hug his mother. After some time he joins the Space Academy as a cadet and the end of hte movie shows him coming home to a party with all his friends welcoming him. He still has attachment to Silver, where ever he may be, but he’s grown into a fine young man.
Personality: Brash, talented, strong and a rebel, Jim Hawkins does not like being locked down and stripped of his freedom. He’s a friendly sort of guy, kind of. Though he is a bit growlish and peevish at times; he has a temper and he has a bad attitude. Grown ups are just trying to tie him down, and others his age tend to be too annoying.
He’s a troubled youth who has issues with abandonment and his father. Because of this he’s a bit angry and very prideful, easily being prodded into a fight, be it with fists or words. His short fuse comes with quick understanding and easy forgiveness (to a point) though. He can talk to someone he just fought with a few minutes later and work with them just as well as not.
When faced with extreme danger, Jim is swift on his feet as well as mind. He’s not very educated but he’s smart, able to figure things out on the fly, and hope they work. He’s brash and reckless, jumping into dangerous situations with out fear for his life, mostly to protect others, but sometimes for his own thrills.
Bonding with people tends to be a odd process. He… tries to be careful, but he tends to make friends fast and easy, even if he is insulting them one moment, if a person is interesting and is taking and interest IN him he will bond faster then not. There are three types of people he bonds with swiftly. Fatherly figures (who are interesting and have good stories and are willing to take interest in him), boys around his age (because people his age, albeit annoying, understand better then not, right?) and innocent people, normally girls, and the young. Someone he can protect.
He’s a protector and a sacrifice kind of guy, though he doesn’t do it for little or useless reasons. When he protects its because it has to be done, and when he sacrifices it’s because there is no other way. He has no issue with either though, and will do what he has to for others.
Fears: He seems almost fearless! He does have a bad fear of being abandoned or in failing his friends. It’s nothing that will stop him dead in his tracks and make it so he can’t move or anything, but one of his biggest fears is being left behind again. He has abandonment issues like that.
For game reasons, and because I can see this as being a small problem for him, being trapped in tight inclosed spaces might be a problem for him. He’s a bit of a free spirit and loves the big wide open spaces. Shooting through a tight space is one thing. Curling up in a barrel of space apples or hanging out in a small docking bay in a cozy little space on a boat is also another thing. These things are all small spaces that he has CONTROL of. He can get out of it easy and there is always a bigger wide open space after it. Being TRAPPED inside a house and not able to see the stars will bother him enough. being trapped in a very small space that he can’t get out of will set him into a mild panic mode. Taking that same situation and tossing in the danger of the night will have him in a full on panic mode. Clearly this is head canon but giving the circumstances of the situation and his historical background with freedom and wide open spaces, I don’t think this is too far fetched.
Weaknesses:
~ He’s a bit brash, quick to jump into things with out fully thinking them over.
~ Short tempered. He’s easy to rile up and anger, though at the end of the movie he was getting better about it, these things can’t just be cured. Though he’s a better boy now, he still has a short temper.
~ Little respect for elders or the law, at least not right away.
~ He’s young and though from a Disney movie, he’s still in a pirate movie as well as his mother running a Inn. Head canon says he’s been around ale, beer, booze and such. I’m also saying he has a very low tolerance for it. Not something he drinks often.
~ A weakness to those in trouble. As much as he might gripe or complain about a person, he wont leave them in trouble if he can help it. This also counts a weakness to children.
Mundane Strengths/Abilities:
~ An ability to quickly pick up and learn how to use a weapon. He might not be great at it bu he learns fast. He has used swords and guns (projectile and laser) most of which he was not really trained but learned pretty well anyhow.
~ All things mechanical! He’s really good with computers, programs, systems, wireng, hard ware, and feeling out the insides of robots, maps and other futuristic things. There will be.... very little in this game that he will have to deal with that though. Communications however, he an help with, if he has something to work with.
~ Fast on his feet, good balance and agile. A good runner and good stamina!
~ Fast thinker in hard situations.
~ He’s a damn good friend and LOYAL... once you get to know him. Just don’t betray him. Ever.
Sensitivity/Magical Ability: N/A
Supply List: Not too much.
One (1) Pocket knife [two blades, one file, one mini aw, two screw drivers, a cork screw, and a pick]
One (1) pair of weighted space boots, black.
One (1) set of clothing. Tan lose tunic top, brown over sized lose pants, reddish brown leather belt, boxers and socks.
One (1) Morph. A small pink blob of goo that can turn into almost anything it wants to by morphing into it. Though generally that figure is tiny (Morph sized) and useless. It’s more for comic relief then anything useful. He’s tiny, pink and useless, but can be helpful in some situations. He’ll likely get Jim into some forms of trouble, but also help to get him out. He’s a loyal pet, really. For some reason, he was hidden away on Jim while he was saving the ship.

Sample RP post:
Pushing it, just a little farther, a little farther! The hot air almost burned as he rushed through it, leaning forward to gain more speed. Come on. Come ON! He told himself, trying to kick the broken piece of space junk hover board into some form of faster working machine. He had to reach the gate. He had to change it to take them home. Or anywhere! It had to be changed to get them out of there or they were all going to die.
The only friends he had ever made were going to die. John Silver... was going to die. He couldn’t let that happen. it was getting closer, even as he had to weave through falling rocks and up shoots of explosions. His fists were clenched and pushed back, forcing that much more will to make him go faster. He had to go faster!
Then the whirrrrrr of the buster canon engine going out, the dreadful feeling dropping in his gut as he started to drop over the ledge. He looked back, seeing the Legacy creeping up, then looked forward to realize he was falling. no... NO! Come On! Not now! NO! he said in utter panic running through his mind.
Turning the board around he kicked it a few times, feeling the heat of the lava below starting to creep up on him. Butting the engine up to the wall he started to spark it, started to make it kick in and--WOOSH! It started and he started to shoot up again, back to save everyone. The ship shot past and--
His feet left the board, landing on floor! He took a suddenly surprised step, tumbling forward, feet trying to catch himself and, at a speed he shouldn’t be running at, he found himself tumbling clear across a room, and crashing head, shoulder and arm first into a wall. There was a large CRACK and a loud pained hiss as he landed, flopping back on his back and letting out a yelp.
Laying there, world spinning, tunic clinging to him from sweat and heat, he panted, eyes wide, staring at a ceiling and looking completely confused about what just happened.
A wrestling form under his back made him shift, and suddenly a pink blob came shooting out of his back, hovering and looking as if small pink drops were dripping off him, as if to say he was hot as well. The little blob floated there, then fell and melted into a puddle on the floor next to him, shifting to a little figure of Jim, laying there in the same way, panting.
“M-morph?” Jim asked, taking a deep breath. “What... jsut happened?” He sat up, hand going to his head as he wobbled, dizzy. “Whoa... not cool.” The tiny Morph did the same thing in tiny Jim form.
