Reminds me of HP: Bewitched

This all seems just so very familiar, doesn't it? Not only that, the family on the show is named "Stevens," which is just a few letters difference from "Evans." Not that there could possibly be any meaning in that . . . or the

Ah, irony. I just posted a picspam of Agnes Moorehead because I'm using her for rar_muriel, so yes, I see it too. And I had a Bewitched Season 5 marathon a week ago.

With one set of canon American and the other British, the two universes fit into crossover, too, with a bit of tweaking.

I think it's easy to see Bewitched as an American version of HP - the story is set up exactly the same way. Witches (and Warlocks) interact with humans, and even fall in love, but they see themselves as superior.

There is also the whole thing about whether Tabitha would be magical or not, and when her powers show up, she can't control them - that's right out of HP also. They are always forbidding her to use magic - just as Harry and Lily were forbidden as children.

This was one of our family favorite shows,

It was also a show ways before any woman's emancipation movement, because Samantha tried to do her very good best not to use magic because her husband did not like the use of it.
Probably because it make him feel really being the inadaquate fool he looked like.

Yeah, as a kid I really liked the show. But, as an adult, I was bothered by the subtext of the female being required to submit to the dominance of the male. I'm not even much of feminist, usually.

I'm not much of a feminist either, and you are right that the first few seasons of Bewitched are old-fashioned, and even as a kid it bothered me that she wasn't "allowed" to do magic. But the love scenes were sweet, and usually Sam got her way in the end. It's sort of a patriarchal show, except that Samantha's relatives cause chaos for Darrin, too. Maybe that's the joke - he thinks he is "in charge" when really he doesn't have a chance against a bunch of magical people. *lol*

In the seventies Samantha became more "liberated" and outspoken, and wore mini-skirts like everyone else. :) Oh how I loved that show!
