David Yates: Snape is "Primary Figure" in Deathly Hallows Two

Thanks to Snape_Crush on HPN who told me about this gif from ObsessedFool on Tumblr. It's Snape picking Lily up from the floor in the Godric's Hollow. The scene, which wasn't in the theatrical release of the movie is included on a featurette from the DVD release. And that includes a fantastic quote from Director David Yates.


YATES: "I love the notion of starting the film with Snape. And the original script actually did not start with him. But because he's such a central part of our story, that whole sequence was really designed around introducing Snape as the primary figure in Hallows Part Two. And so I had this idea of finding him alone, and he almost looks like on of the dementors in a sort of sihouettey way. And it feels really haunted and sad and then you cut to this face--and one thing I love about Alan Rickman and the way he plays Snape is that it's so difficult to read what he's thinking sometimes."
