Real Housewives of OC: Cartoon Divas

My favorite television shows are all on Bravo TV. Project Runway is the best, but I also love Top Chef, which last night had a wonderful Christmas Cook-Off, and I think Tim Gunn's Guide to Style is one of the sweetest shows I've ever seen. My obsession with Bravo began with the very first reality show - Blow Out. I've never been interested in styling hair, but the personalities on that show were so fascinating that it drew me in.

That is also how I feel about the Real Housewives of Orange County, which holds my interest for an hour each week for totally different reasons.

The people on the show are like zoo specimens to me that I watch because they are very exotic, and almost hideous in their fake beauty. They have botox needles sticking out of their foreheads because they fear their significant others will dump them unless they look 25. They have to be workaholics to support their lavish lifestyles, so every party is about making deals and business connections. Some of them don't know what relaxation is, while others seem lazy as slugs with no motivation, especially the young women.

I guess you can tell I don't like many of the people on the show - in fact, I watch the show for the shock factor, to see which housewife can astonish me the most with her self-absorption, vanity, greed, and bad parenting skills. The teenagers are all spoiled brats, which only one or two able to make good grades in school. The men are mostly there just to be sperm doners and pay the bills. The one man on the show who was outspoken - "Slade" - was teased by the women that he "wanted to be another Housewife. But alas, poor Slade, his girlfriend left him, and he hasn't found a new housewife to dress up in the French Maid outfit, so he's off the show this season.

The irony in the show is that the adults envy the young adults for their looks, and the young people envy the older ones for their relationships and money. So none of them are happy at all.

So it was with the utmost glee that I came across the following blog:

prettyontheoutside.com

The blogger is an artist and every week, she tapes the show, then freezes frames and sketches the Housewives and their families. Her favorite is crazy Vicki with her pop-eyes, and the pictures are exquisitely perfect.

If ever there was a human cartoon, it is Vicki, who terrorizes her children, embarrasses her family and friends, and never stops talking and screeching!

In case you never watch the show, here is a video of Vicki insanity. She is a nut. But she is a wealthy nut, so she's on television.
