Well, I just sent my story "Maniac" to the editor of Black Ink Horror magazine....this is the first time I've ever attempted to actually get published, and while it's not my strongest or most cerebral story (IMO), it does make you cringe when you read it, so maybe the sheer gore will count for something. I'm going to be writing some stories of a more cerebral nature in the coming weeks, hopefully a lot more this summer while I have the time. I think I'm starting to find my own niche instead of just copying the writers I like. It's been a bit difficult to be original in a genre where it seems like everything has been done before, but it's definitely possible. I'd really like to see what I can do with this "resurgent atavism" idea. Looking back, Ride of the Oskorei was a really excellent concept, but because I was basically just copying Lovecraft's style, I don't think that story reached its full potential.

Anyway, I'm also going to write something to submit to the IUS Writing Competition this year, as well as the IUS Review, whenever they decide to take submissions for that. I might do some flash fiction, but I have this other idea I want to work on...it's occured to me that the literary types who judge the contest STILL don't take horror very seriously (And why should they, after all it's not like there have been any horror writers over the last forty years who have ever had ANY #1 Bestsellers...*coughStephenKingcough*...sorry, something in my throat). Thus, sending in horror will probably not yield any results. That's fine, my new idea isn't horror. Hell, there really aren't any characters. I honestly shouldn't call it fiction. Oh hell, I'm being vague. I'll detail it later. Right now, tis time for slumber.
