Ahhhhh, we FINALLY have heat! The girls in Apt. 6 looked on the internet and found that the last date to have the heat turned on before your tenants could sue you was November 1st, so they called our landlord today and told him, "Our head still isn't working. If it isn't working by next Tuesday, we're going to have to sue you!" Always before, when one of us would call, he'd just send over one of the maintenance guys. Lately, Kurt (our regular maintenance guy) has been on vacation, so they've been sending a sub-contractor, Bill, who knows NOTHING about radiator heating. This time, an hour after the girls in 6 called the landlord, he sent over a team of plumbers. They found out that over the summer during renovations, the construction guys had broken one of the main heating lines in the basement! So they fixed that, and they're bringing over a new thermostat tomorrow, since the one we have is really old and isn't the proper one for our system, to boot. But at least we finally have heat! *does the

I'm making dinner right now, but it's still in the prep stages so I can take off and come write in here every few minutes! *chuckle* I'm making this broccoli-cheese chicken bake thing from my Six Ingredients or Less cookbook, but I'm waiting for the rest of the chicken to thaw (handy tip: if you have steam heat, you can quick-thaw chicken by putting it in a heavy-duty Ziploc baggie and setting it on top of the radiator!)so I can chop it and cook it. Then it's "throw everything in a pan and bake" time! To go with dinner is fresh-ground vanilla hazelnut coffee, and for dessert: Fresh-baked Honey-wheat bread with jam!! XD I'm taking the new bread machine for a spin. Ohh so much fun! I feel incrediblly domesticated right now. Baking dinner, baking bread, fresh-ground coffee? Eeeek! Thank god for Gabe playing Suikoden IV right now! *whew*
Work last night was kinda fun, despite the frustrations of the day (I had a terrible crick in my back from attempting to sleep in
babskewl33's car on the way home from Ames...not your fault, girl! Cars just aren't the most comfortable place to nap....and the apartment was freezing all day yesterday). I got to work and was furious when I found out how Eric had changed the schedule for next week. See, I'd asked him if I could work Mon-Fri 7am-3pm, and he said that he'd be rearranging the schedule soon and he'd work things out. He never gave me any indication that I wouldn't be working the schedule I'd asked for. But the schedule he'd made had me working Monday-Wednesday 7-3, Thursday and Friday off, and Saturday-Sunday 10-6!! That wouldn't really solve any of the problems I was having, other than getting me off the night shift. In fact, instead of giving me more time to spend with Gabe, it'd actually be taking time away, because we'd NEVER have a day off together! So I was really irritated, but after calling Gabe and venting for a while, I was a little calmer. I wrote up a couple of alternate schedules to suggest to Eric in the morning, and then did the work thing for a while. Since the weekend was full of debauchery, and yesterday was so cold, it wasn't too busy at work. I managed to get in some relaxation time, and when the paper-delivery guy (the one that was so sullen and quiet all last week) came in, he was in an almost-normal mood (probaby because Jerryn was there, so he had someone he could talk to). And then the truck came in incredibly late (they were actually pulling out of the parking lot at 6am), so Kevin ended up putting it away while I talked to Eric about the schedule! I feel a little bad about that, but not too much, because I've been putting trucks away by myself twice a week for six months! I figure one time putting away the truck won't hurt Kevin too much :P.
Hmmm...dinner didn't turn out too badly. Note to self: next time use mayo instead of salad dressing. Otherwise, pretty darn good!
Let's see...oh. After showing Eric my schedule suggestions, he looked things over and rearranged a couple things; the end result being that we're going to try me out Mon-Thurs 7 to 3, Friday & Saturday off, and Sunday 10-6. That means I won't really see Gabe at all on Sundays, because I'll be going to work before he gets up, and then I'll get home an hour or two before he leaves for game, and I'll be in bed before he gets back. But after thinking about it for a while, I think that's going to be a good thing. It means I get time to myself on Fridays while Gabe's at work, and he gets time to himself on Sundays while I'm at work. And Saturdays, we'll have the whole day together! So I told Eric that, if he wanted to make that my permanent schedule, I'd be okay with that. He said he'd see how it works out. Part of the reason it's messed up like this right now is because Kevin is still here; if he scheduled me on Thursday and Friday days, we'd have four people working the morning shift. There's just NO reason to have that many people there unless it's a game day. Our store just isn't busy enough. The other reason the tentative new schedule is so messed up is that Jerryn isn't on the new schedule. When Eric went to 51 (the store where Jerryn normally works) to ask whether we could have him a couple nights a week (since Jerryn wants to work at our store...he isn't getting enough hours at 51), and the lady who does the scheduling at 51 flipped out on him. She started yelling about how Jerryn is spreading himself too thin, and he should never go working at other stores. So Eric just kinda ran away. Jerryn's going to talk to the gal (she's not even a manager..she just does the scheduling! So Jerryn outranks her) and see if he can work something out, because we really want him to work here, and he really wants to work with us!
Okay...this has gone on long enough. I have other things to do! LOL
Hopefully the work schedule thing will be taken care of. Now I must go prepare for the Coming of the Bread!! *sniffs air* Ohhhhhhh that smells heavenly!!
