With all the Grey bashing going around my friends list, I've been left feeling like an outcast. I actually like this show. In no way am I saying it's the greatest show ever, or am I saying that it is completely brilliant and witty. In fact, I agree with most of you haters. The show is stupid. It is insulting to doctors. It doesn't have a captivating plot or any reason to like the characters. Oddly enough I'm not watching for any of these things. I'm pretty much hanging around ABC after Desperate Housewives. If Grey's aired at any other time, save Monday, I probably wouldn't bother to watch it. Now, why do I choose to watch this, while I didn't get into Boston Legal. Good question. After Alias last season, I stuck around for the Practice. I just can't seem to get into the Legal show. I just wasn't captivated. I hate to say this, but the reason I checked out Grey's in the first place was because of the song played in the promo. Such Great Heights is fricking awesome.
That leads me to why I'm watching Grey's. They play good music. It plays interesting music, as opposed to ER, which, IMO is this medical drama's closest comparison. I thought of Grey's Anatomy as Scrubs meets ER. It's got the music and oddly placed humor of Scrubs, with the "drama" of ER. This was a first impression. I've found that the humor of Grey's is very immature. How many post-grad woman go around asking their male room mate to buy Tampons? How many men make fun of a woman, who posed in lingerie? I thought the guy's would be super turned on. Also, since when go girls go barging into a bathroom, when another person is in it? Seriously. The show is very Junior High. Which is probably why I like it. I'm 16, so the maturity level isn't that high. It also explains why most people don't like it. If you're looking for an accurate depiction of residency, don't watch this show. It also has creepy moments, like when Sandra Oh's character (see, I'm not invested enough to even remember character's names) refers to ER patients as "like candy, but with blood, which is so much better!" Wow. Talk about a completely inhuman reaction. Who says that? I can understand her not being sympathetic, or not being a people person, but the injured are absolutely not like candy. AT. ALL.
It also isn't the most original show. The medical dramas have been waaayy over used. But, this show attempted to integrate serious medical stuff, with witty Scrubs like moments. I personally it didn't reach that. It actually fell quite short. The humor isn't even that funny. The relationships aren't that interesting. The plots aren't that creative, and have really predictable moments. Really. Like in the first episode, when goofy male doctor (I'll call him Tim, because he reminds me of Tim from the Office. Who, by the way, is going to be playing Arthur Dent in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie. w00t) tells random cardiac patient's family that he's going to be fine before the surgery. That spells death. Also, sometimes the music choices seem to not fit with the mood.
Now I'm starting to question why I watch the show. I can't tell you, but I don't take this all that seriously. I take every single second with a grain of salt. So I'm basically just watching, laughing, I think I cried once, but that may have been hormones and less about the drama. This is going to be my w/e show. I'll watch it, I won't freak out about what happens, I won't make icons or obsess about it every waking moment *cough*Veronica Mars*cough*, and if I miss it I won't record or download it. No love lost.
Oh, and Eyes. Kristin from E! called it Malias. Would it surprise any of you to say that I'm not loving this? Like Harlen Judd, Eye's is too smug for its own good. It's reached the point, where some of Judd's methods blow my mind. Like, can you even tell a man you're following him? It's completely unrealistic. Also, don't care about the "plot." The whole thing about the guy trying to buy Judd Risk Management? Yeah. Not caring. Also, what about everything that happened in the first episode. Like they threw it away. Maybe the writers forgot. Eh. Another show that I will watch, not care about, and probably forget if it gets canceled. Oddly, I kinda like Grey's more than this. Maybe because I had higher hopes for this, and I'm let down. As opposed to Grey's, where I no longer give a shit.
Ok, one more. Desperate Housewives. Yeah. I'm actually angry about this show. It was good. Really good. I think things went downhill when it was submitted in comedy categories. I think the writers were pressured to make it funnier than it should be. They also have the nasty habit of introducing major plot information, only to completely ignore it for weeks at a time. Remember when Bree "broke up" with pharmacist? Remember how he was giving Rex the wrong meds? That was, what, in the fall, early winter? That is now being mentioned, in SPRING? WTF? Also, you know how Susan caught Andrew in the pool with the guy... Wouldn't you think Susan would be acting kinda odd around Bree? Like "I caught you son with another boy macking, but I can't tell you t because it will freak you out." Why didn't that happen? Oh, and remember, once again, after Mama Solis was put into a coma, Carlos started switching Gaby's birth control pills? Yeah. Well, that was months ago, but was just recently brought up last week. You'd think Gaby would have gotten pregnant by now. *sigh* I'm probably the most angry about this show's drop in quality. Probably because it had the most potential. Popular shows always let the popularity knock them down. Which is why I'm a little worried about Lost, because JJ is able to screw shows up pretty easily.
