At work, there is a demo Sirius radio that is always on. Now, when the boss is away and the other guy I'm working with is preoccupied, I switch it to "Left of Center", which is awesome and like my iPod, but on the radio. Now, the guy I work with hates it, which annoys me because it's good music! Death Cab for Cutie! The Shins! Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! The White Stripes! She & Him! And I'm going to talk about the last one for a bit. Because She & Him, aka Zooey Deschanel singing with some indie dude (clearly I don't have enough cred to know who M. Ward was before this). She's surprisingly good, she's got a very airy voice, kind of like how she talks. It also helps the songs have good melodies (think folk meets country meets lounge) and lyrics. I listened to the album, and in typical me fashion I went and listened to one song over and over again, then moved onto another and did the same. So I'm currently obsessed with "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?", "Black Hole", and "Sweet Darlin'". They're all catchy and sweet and make me kind of happy. So check it out if you have some time.
Doctor Who tomorrow! I'm so excited I'll be home to download it as it's uploaded. The way it's worked lately is I get home from work around 9:30, start the download (my RSS auto-download thing hasn't worked), eat, then watch. Nothing too wrong with that, it gave me a scared shitless experience with "Midnight", which is always fun. But for a big finale, I want to see it ASAP. I'm just starting to get very excited for the finale, though I'm in denial about it being the end of the series. This series has just exceeded my wildest expectations and made me fall in love with the show again. Davies pulled something similar with Torchwood this year, too. I was reading older thoughts about Doctor Who and Rose and Martha and Torchwood, and it's funny to see how I've changed. Like I was all ready to write off this series because of annoying Donna, or how I compared Martha to a stray dog the Doctor picked up or how I was looking for reasons to watch the then mediocre Torchwood. What a difference a year can make! Rose is back! Donna rules! Torchwood is the shit! Martha found her power and specialty with UNIT (yay Martha empowerment!) Dare I say it: I'm going to miss Davies when he goes... Perhaps I should wait until the finale to make that official, I'm still pissed about
"The Last of the Time Lords".
ETA: I got so caught up in my Doctor Who thoughts (typical) that I completely forget to bring up the whole point of this post! Little by little, the shortlist for the various Emmy categories have been released, and while I was expecting the yearly "No BSG", I was treated to a surprise!
Mary McDonnell made the Drama Actress short list! Hurray! Now, that list will be whittled down to five (?), but she made it past something and it would be wonderful to have her represent. I remember how pumped I was last year when a BSG episode was nominated for writing and/or directing and I got to see a little clip during the award show. I love the mainstream attention, especially for something so excellent.
