In case anyone was confused about my last post (does anybody still read this thing?), on Friday night our fridge expired. It was making a horrible noise, then the noise stopped, and the normal fridge noise slowly grew quieter and quiter until it was totally silent. Having come close to buying a new one when the icemaker died a few months back, it smarted a bit (not getting a new one then turned out to be a $200 mistake), but I am trying to let it go. Que sera sera, and all that.

So, new fridge. Just doing our part to goose the economy. Which is in the crapper. And will only get worse the longer the debt-ceiling negotiations drag on.

Speaking of the economy, here are some smart observations about:

1. Why Medicare is the solution, not the problem
2. Why the only Social Security reform worth considering is raising the ceiling on income subject to it
3. And why Washington is about to make the jobs crisis even worse.

I keep waiting for the grownups to step in and sort things out. Where are they?
