I think Rica may be the only person I've discussed this idea with XD ....iiiit. The idea ~came to me in a dream~ several months ago, but I ended up never being able to think of a name I liked and that really did end up with me practically giving up. Then the name kind of smacked me in the face this morning and I was like OKAY LET'S DO THIS (actually the original name I thought of was "Project Eurydice," but in thinking about the myth, it was only slightly fitting. Which sucks because I like that name more)
Dear Sir/Madam,
It is our pleasure to introduce you to Project Morpheus...
It was nothing to take any notice of at first. Just another brochure, a poster. Some junk mail to be dismissed and discarded when you got around to it.
That wasn't the end of it, however.
It continued on for a while. Letters, phonecalls, emails. Notes slipped under your pillow or slid inside your luggage. You have no idea how they keep managing to contact you, and mentioning this to anyone else brings no recognition or understanding. They probably think you're crazy, and rightfully so. They promise you things, though. Maybe even things no one else should know you want. Help to find a cure for that disease plaguing your friend? Time to clear your head
and figure out what to do about that crisis facing your world. They promised you could stay as long as you wanted -
time wouldn't pass while you were gone. So why not, right?
Perhaps you decided to take them up on this offer. Just for a couple of weeks, you see. You needed the time or were skeptical and needed to see it for yourself. Or perhaps you declined - the timing wasn't right, or perhaps it just wasn't
for you.
The choice you made doesn't matter anymore, however. Welcome to your new home.

You wake up on a bed in the Greeting Centre at the heart of the city. Perhaps the first thing you notice is all the beds circling the entirety of this massive hall; the first indication as to what a large scale operation this really is. There's an envelope on the pillow; a small welcome note. A map. A key. This is where you'll be staying until they let you go. Do
make yourself at home.
The locals are happy to see you here. Or so they say, at least. Some of them greet you cheerfully with eyes that say they want you to leave. They'll never say it out loud, though. Oh no. Because Project Morpheus is a benefit to all. It will serve to heighten the standard of living for all involved! That is why you're all here, after all.
No one would blame you for finding this hard to believe, of course.
So long as you don't say it out loud.

Project Morpheus is a project aiming at creating a Better Life in the isolated city of Aether, by building it's base from a mix of natural citizens and people from other worlds who aren't steeped in the history and problems that this world has created for itself. The hope, is that this would further advancement in all areas and hopefully avoid the repetition of the same mistakes and catastrophes that plague all societies.
It's not explained what brought about its creation, nor is there any intention from your hosts to explain it in the future. The natives know, but any attempts to talk render them in so much pain that trying to get any information from them is useless.
Characters are issued with an apartment, an allowance and a small sum of money to get them situated with clothes and items for their apartments. They will find this in the assigend apartments along with a cellphone and a laptop to keep in contact with your fellow inhabitants. Communication and building relationships is essential to building a cohesive society!
