Aw man. The second I read "week one", I knew Bobby was definitely dead. *sobs* So much for Crowley ex machina. At least the boys learned and nobody was trying to bring him back so he could explain the numbers. (Even if, honestly, it might have been in character to maybe try and contact Crowley. They hate him, yes, but enemy of my enemy...)
I kind of liked the kid, even if it was nothing new and no surprises. Except for them being all 'oh she saved us' in the end, when clearly, Dean had things covered until she showed up. Oh well. You could see that while Dean told them to get out, he knew that it just isn't that easy. He got out there, for a while. As did Sam. As did Mary. And look what happened. Then again, this wasn't the cursed Campbell family. ;) [I'm just glad the actor can come back. I quite like him. Also, what I would now love to see is an episode where Dean is responsible for turning the remaining family into hunters. Like, he was two minutes too late to save the mother, now five years later he runs into them again. Something like that. Would be prime angsting. Better than the ghosts of the past from ... 4x02? Or such?]
The end just broke me. Jensen did such a great job forcing Dean to smile and struggling, almost crying at one point, until he kind of made it. What I loved most about the little "fake it" speech in the beginning was that it didn't end on "until you make it". No "and then, one day, it will get easier" or "one day, you won't even notice the smile is fake anymore". Just, life sucks. It does. So, get out or soldier on. I think it's what Dean needed to hear. At that point. I'm still hoping he can really get over it at a later point, maybe after killing Dick.
But anyways. I rewatched the first few minutes. And you know what I noticed then, because now I knew to look for it? Dean's beer bottle. It was clearly still mostly full in one shot, the boys talk, then it's empty. Just like that. Dean did not drink it. The few seconds he might have were not enough to finish the bottle. And since it was referenced, it was clearly not a "one shot, bottle full, next shot, bottle empty"-bad cut blooper. This had significance. So. What do we think it means?
Personally, I'm thinking that Bobby didn't go, he's still around, and he ghost-drained the beer to tell Dean to quit fucking around and help the kid. Or maybe to just quit drinking. I dunno. Either that, or it was Cas in some way. Although I stick with Bobby. For now. I just doubt it was a sign of Dean's alcoholism. The show wouldn't deliver it like that.
In other news, I discovered my new blouse has a hole in the front. I dunno what to do now. It's laundered. Maybe I could fix it. *sighs* It's not too large, but large enough to notice. :/ And then I made key lime pie. Yum!
