Are you Isn't it a bit early in the year to start punching each other?

There is no such thing as too early to punch one another! And anyway, Nicholas darling already started on Sunday during our Quidditch pratice, so this is really quite late, really!

It still seems early!

Isn't there supposed to be some bosh about the early bird getting the worm? I think it's supposed to mean that being early is a very good thing indeed. Not that I am a bird -- I like being a chap. Golly, that's a lot more vulgar than I thought it was at first.

I don't think there is anything that you can get from this that you can't get later!

I'm more prepared for if Slytherin loses Quidditch matches because I either didn't catch the Snitch or caught it too early before our Chasers could catch up in terms of points? Not that Slytherin is going to lose this year, of course -- we'll win the cup again.

How does that make you more prepared?

Well, now I'll know what to expect!

You don't really need to practise that sort of thing.

It also builds character -- you know, not unlike Eton back in Victorian times, with its basis in the rigours of the Spartan agoge system! And Daddy said in his book that it kept him sane to think about it that way when he was in --

I disagree!

How does a sound thrashing not build character?

Reply

celkin April 3 2008, 03:51:10 UTC
Because it hurts. That doesn't build character, it just breaks something else!

That's the point of the entire exercise -- if one can take it, then one can take anything.

I don't think you can take anything just because someone punched you.

It's a chap thing.
