Guess this is where I add my recommendation for Lux, and own up to being an employee. Although if you're really looking more for a pint of beer and a game of pool, I can point you toward someplace more appropriate.

Well if the rest of the employees are anything like you and the other women I've spoken to, I won't be having any complaints.

A ... game of pool? That sounds... interesting.

Afraid I haven't got anything to do with the way the place presents itself, I just do their network security, but it really is nice.

Do you know what pool is, by any chance?

Security? ... Really?

... Is that a trick question? Last I checked it's a hole filled with water.

Just under contract, not full-time.

Ooh, no. I mean yes, that's true, but I'm actually talking about a game. It's um, played with balls on top of a table, with a stick. Also called billiards?

So you're... a bodyguard, then?

Never heard of it. But I'm a willing enough pupil, if you'd have half a mind to teach me?

No, it's more like...security against espionage. For instance, codes to keep people from reading your private journal entries. I actually work for the police force, in the intelligence department. If you could tell me a bit about where or when you're from, I could probably explain a bit better.

I'd be happy to! All you really need is decent hand-eye coordination.

... Can't I just say 'nothing like this place' and have done? I don't exactly have a point of reference to compare it to. I mean. No one here's heard of Furies or the like, which is weird enough in itself.

Decent. Well I suppose. No crafting allowed, huh?

Well, you can always start with your name, that might give me a clue.

Not quite sure what you mean by crafting...

Antillar Maximus. Friends call me Max.

... Ah... bloody crows. It's... a practical application from my ... 'world'. Essentially, to an outsider's view, it's elemental magic. Water, metal, wood, fire, air and earth. Almost every Aleran has one or two - some have all six. The furies themselves are harnessed forces of the elements they represent.

Sorry if that doesn't make sense. I sort of skipped my practical furycraft class.

That sounds Roman, or Latin at least. It's nice to meet you, Max. I'm Toshiko Sato.

Got it, magic. We don't have any where I come from, so I know next to nothing about it, but I think I at least get what you're saying. And no, that would be considered cheating at pool, I'm afraid.

And that sounds ... foreign. The pleasure's all mine.

None? That-- well. I know someone that'll be very happy to hear that.

I'll be sure and refrain, then. Can't be too hard.

It's Japanese. Um...if you are from someplace that'd be in the vicinity of what we'd call Rome, then you'd consider it Eastern or Oriental, I guess?

Oh? You have a friend looking to find a place where there's no magic?

It's not difficult to learn. But I hope you don't have any objection to losing to a girl.

Well, I've heard of the Romanics, but they're theoretically the ancestors of my people. We've got a race called the Marat, they're to the east? It's not a Marat name, though.

... Sort of. It's a little complicated, and probably not my story to tell. He'd probably like it here, though.

None at all! I have a soft spot for girls that can best me in any given field.

Oh, that's interesting. I wonder if your world and mine have some similar history. The last Roman I talked to hadn't heard of Japan either. I don't think they'd gone that far East yet.

Well, if he's a friend and he'd like it here, then I hope he maybe shows up.

Then I guess we just need to pick a time.

Well I mean, I'm not a Roman. By the point in ... time, I suppose, that I'm from, we're Aleran. Crows, I never paid much attention to history. What's your world like?

Eh, as much as he'd like it, I'm not sure I'd wish being stuck in a strange place on anyone. It's bloody well bad enough that I'm here, I'm supposed to be with him, watching his crowbegotten back.

... Pardon my language. Campaigning'll do that to me, I'm afraid.

I have no other obligations, though I'm going to go check in with the resident Medica, to see if they need a hand with this 'plague' thing.
