Uh, no. This was meant to be a quick one-off, with a deliberately ambiguous ending.

There's another prompt at the meme, though, in which Dean & Cas go fetch Sam out of Lucifer's cage, so I might write that as a sequel to this.

Because, y'know, I don't have like TEN other fics on the go that need my attention...

Ungh! When I need to be killed dead first thing in the morning I know I can count on you! That was gorgeous and painful. Loved Dean's realization of what was going on. Loved Sam's unwillingness to ask him and the reason for it. Loved “Insouciant, maybe?” because, you know, smart!dean and a little humor to cut the tension. Awesome as always and more ritual than torture really!

smart!Dean is a major kink of mine. I squeed SO hard when he mentioned Vonnegut in S4 I almost ruptured something. ;)

I was aiming for ritual more than torture, in this case, so I'm glad it came off that way. The whole point was to have Dean do it, and to have both of them worry that his time in hell would affect him, and to have it not be about that at all, in the end.

I hadn't planned on more, but like I've said to others, there may be a sequel. I'm a little overcommitted with fanfic these days, though, so it might take a while.
