I've been a member of this community but haven't been able to fully participate as the dog I applied with lives with my parents (she's the family dog). Since I no longer live with them, I didn't see her day in and day out. So now my partner and I have moved into a new place where we can have our own dog and I'm applying with her.
For the Owner:
01. Name? Michelle
02. Age? 32
03. Location? Syracuse, NY
For the Dog:
01. What is your name? Dahlia
Any nicknames? Sometimes they call me "pretty girl" or "silly mutt," but mostly it's just Dahlia.
02. Sex? Female
03. How old are you? When is your Birthday? I'm somewhere between 2 or 3 (or so say the various vets I've seen in the past few months). No one knows my birthday, so my people celebrate the anniversary of when I came into their lives: May 17, 2008. See, I came from a shelter originally -- dumped there by someone who once might have loved me but no longer wanted me around. I was one day away from being euthanized (they still won't tell me what that means, but it sounds scary!) when a rescue pulled me. I met my Mom on the transport (she helps dogs like me all the time) and she fell in love with me and brought me home. Boy am I happy!
04. What breed are you? Best guess is a lab/border collie mix. In other words, I'm a mutt (though those designer folks call me a "Borador"...silly people!).
05. Describe your physical traits. I weigh in at a svelte 49.5lbs (the vet says I'm very physically fit). I'm almost all black, though if you look closely enough you'll see bits of white hair: mostly at my haunches and on my chest (they can be almost totally hidden by the hair around my collar), though there's a little on my chin as well. All, I suppose, testament to my border collie heritage. My hair is very soft, slightly wavy, and right now it's shedding quite a bit. But no worries, my folks have the furminator, so this girl is never unsightly.
06. Describe your personality. Much of the time I'm a very serious, quiet kind of gal. I don't like to get worked up too much. I do enjoy my walks though and sometimes I get a little too excited when another dog comes near. My border collie personality comes out on walks -- sometimes I get excited and start herding my mom and dad! I've even tried to grab their heels to get them into line. I know they're not sheep, which is why I do it all with a grin. I also love to snuggle with them and when they come home I'm so excited I wiggle all over and give them "the paw" (I like holding hands -- weird, I know!). Sometimes I'm so excited I even give them TWO paws. I don't jump on them -- I just put one up on their leg and then put the other up so I'm leaning against them. I love my people! And I love dogs too. But I'm still trying to figure out how to play. Mom takes me to the dog park a lot and I wander around a lot. Sometimes I finally play a little bit, but I don't really get it. The dogs do this thing called a "play bow" but I just don't understand the reasoning behind it. I'm finally learning fetch though. I love to spend a little time chasing a ball or toy. I even once caught a frisbee! It's taking a little bit, but I'm finally figuring out how to be a dog.
07. Where do you live? I live in a nice first floor flat in Syracuse, NY.
08. Do you have any siblings? None that I know of! But if you mean do my Mom and Dad have any other dogs? No. I'd be a tad bit jealous as I love getting affection from them. Really, though, they're not allowed to, though I hear my mother lamenting over dogs who haven't gotten adopted. I hear there's a couple not too far away that sound a lot like me!
09. What is your favorite toy? I'm not much of a gal for toys, but I have taken a liking to the little stuffed sheep they bought me recently. I guess I should since I'm supposed to (sort of) herd those things.
10. Where is your favorite place to sleep? I sleep on a nice comfy bed next to Mom and Dad's bed. They don't mind me sleeping with them, but they toss and turn too much for this gal. I like getting my beauty rest!
11. What is your favorite thing to do to annoy your people? My people tell me I'm pretty darned good. But I do have a problem pulling on the leash to get to other dogs. I just want to say hi! And if they leave the chairs out to a table, I'll climb on it if there's anything interesting up there -- like food...or a window. I once got up on Dad's desk and knocked all his dissertation papers, postcards, and even his laptop to the floor (don't worry -- it was ok!). I left telltale paw prints all over everything, so they knew who had done it. Oops!

Giving my Mom the paw when I first met her...see, I knew who I was supposed to go home with!
Ferocious D!
