Because I rather like the Justice League Cartoon, I thought I'd give the Batman Animated Series a try too. So I now have copies of most of the episodes of Batman The Animated series, plus the first season of the Gotham Knights series. Almost 100 cartoon episodes, yet with no real time for a cartoon marathon of watching all episodes in order in my ( Read more... )

-wandering in from friends friends list-

Wow, liviapenn just gave an awesome summary of the best episodes, and I agree with all of them for B:TAS. I especially agree with the Harley episodes - Harley Quinn is an absolutely fantastic character and is always a funny and menacing highlight of any episode she's in.

The one that she didn't mention that I absolutely loved was 'Almost Got Him' where the major villains of the series (Joker, Penguin, Two-Face, the Croc and Poison Ivy) play poker while trying to top each other's stories of how they almost killed Batman. Excellent episode.

Another one that I liked was 'Mad as a Hatter,' which explains the origins of the Mad Hatter. Very sad, with a great performance by whoever does the voice of the Mad Hatter - I think it's Malcolm McDowell but I'm not sure.

Among the Joker highlight episodes (and there are many) is 'Joker's Favor,' when an ordinary man has the unfortunate luck of encountering Joker and...well, it's Joker. Someone has to pay.

There are also episodes with one-shot villains that I particularly liked, although I'm aware not everyone shares my fondness for them. One of them is 'Read my Lips,' about a killer ventriloquist dummy. And that's not a typo of any sort! Great animation, and watch for what I thought (and still think) was a shockingly brutal and effective sequence involving the dummy near the end.

I also have a soft spot for 'Baby Doll." It's a flawed episode about a child star gone nuts. Tt seemed like the writers couldn't decide on which tone to strike so they hit all of them, but I love the episode regardless.

Have a blast watching them! B:TAS was a fantastic show.

Thanks for more episode recs, and I believe the Ventriloquist episode could be good, I rather like the Ventriloquist with his evil dummy Scarface in the comics, he's scary in a disturbing kind of way.
