Good News!

I'm back home from the hospital and am happy to report that Doug is looking better!!  The tracheonomy went successful and he appears to be breathing more on his own and less on the ventilator.  He's been taken off the antibiotics since his leg looks like it got over being so "angry" (I kept telling it that it would have a much better time staying attached to Doug!).  His body has even lost a tremendous amount of swelling so he's even starting to look like Doug again.  His plastic surgery was successful today - another improvement just being stable enough to withstand the 5+ hours of surgery!

He's still heavily medicated and in lots of pain so he isn't quite aware yet.  BUT I am hopeful that he will soon be able to open his eyes and "see" me.  I am anxiously waiting to look into his eyes and "see" him.  He won't be able to talk yet, but he will!

I have so much to be thankful for - I can't do this one day at a time since I'm rarely online these days so please forgive me for spitting it out in a lump sum ... for now anyway!  I'm thankful for my husband and his recovery, doctors, nurses, medical science and instituitions, emergency field ops, Mother Nature's healing power, the power of prayer and ritual, good friends, devoted loved ones ... family.

I send thanks, love, and appreciation to you my friends, my family, for being there for me and for Doug.

I've been holding my breath for 3 weeks now.  It feels wonderful to breathe again! :o)
