Dinah figured testing her phone on Reno would work; she'd just call back until she got him, and if she didn't, she'd just leave a "call me back" message that would be innocuous if someone else got it.

Phone calls from cute blond chicks always came in threes, didn't they?

"Yo!"

Reno was now juggling his phone between his ear and his shoulder, a box of stuff in hand while he made another trip down the stairs.

"Yes! Success! Finally," Dinah enthused. "Hey, Reno. It's Dinah."

Hey, she couldn't know the two other blondes called him already, making it easier to guess who.

"I figured," Reno laughed. "Your ringtone and everything."

Dinah's ringtone on Reno's phone, for the record, was set to play 'La Cucaracha.' Sometimes, Reno completely failed at good taste.

"How you been, Rookie?"

"Enh, up, down, sideways, you know how it is. One week down, fourteen to go," Dinah said, and then grinned. "You just missed the latest phone mess up. Unless someone tried to call you this weekend?"

Reno went quiet for a moment, thinking that one over.

"Well, that explains that one call I got from a Rookie, askin' why I was comin' on to her while talkin' about gods, yo."

It was all so very clear, now.

"Holy wow," Dinah snickered, then said, "I got one from a guy I know here about how no, he wasn't interested in cybersex and webcams. I'm planning on poking him about that when I see him. So yeah, last weekend: crazy phones again." She grinned, then asked, "Did you get the care package?" Those cookies wouldn't keep forever!

"I did," Reno agreed, grinning lopsidedly. "Best damn cookie I ever put into my mouth, yo!"

One cookie, damnit. The rest were for the cute little kids out there, all cold and hungry and awwwww, kids.

"Are you saving the rest? You can have more than one at once, you know," Dinah pointed out, smiling. "And oh, did I guess right, is it winter there? If it's summer I'm going to be bummed." Although maybe he could use the space heater in the greenhouses?

"Totally winter," Reno laughed. "I got a heater set up by Mako an' everything. He appreciates the sentiment, by the way."

A pause.

"Thanks, Rookie. You know you don't gotta do all this, right? I mean, there are plenty of bigger charity cases in Edge than me, yoto."

Which was why he was running laps, yes.

"I know, but you're the one I know, and you're the guy who could leave, who isn't," Dinah said, using her own particular logic. "And I figure you're going to give the slinkies to kids anyway. Or whatever extra you don't need. It's fun to make up those packages too, you know. Finding something new all the time." She grinned. "Any suggestions for the next one? I dunno, duct tape? Got piping and electricity that needs patching?"

"Edge is made of piping that needs patching," Reno laughed. "If you can find duct tape in the T&C, then feel free to send it my way, fine."

"You up to anything more interestin' than 'no good' since I talked to you last?"

Well, hey, another excuse to go into Baltimore. Woo!

"Auditioned for the play again, still working at the flower shop, classes are mostly interesting and less crazy this semester-- except for the one about love and romance in the movies," Dinah said, her voice souring a bit. "Training, more training, training a new kid and, um. Boyfriend broke up with me. That pretty much covers it." Except for the crimefighting, and seriously, that hadn't happened for real yet. Not exactly.

Well, it all sounded good until...

"Anybody need his ass kicked?"

Look, Reno was kind of fiercely protective of his Rookies. It was a thing.

It was an appreciated thing, yeah.

"No," Dinah denied. "It sucks to be him, more than me. He left for Christmas break and got stuck in a city under martial law for two and a half years. He's running missions for the resistance now. Just got back from one this morning. He's just... not in a boyfriendy headspace." She grimaced. "It's funny, he kind of reminds me of you, now, when he never did before. Only angrier, maybe."

"Bullshit." Look, Reno was having a difficult time accepting that there might be people out there who were angrier than he was. "He probably just ain't learned to channel it right, yet," he decided.

And then, after a pause and a little chuckle.

"I bet I make pissy look better, yo."
