“Hey,” Ryeowook hears. He turns, seeing someone behind him.
“Oh my god, when did you get here?” And then he remembers he’s behind the counter at work (because school does require money). “Oh my god, what are you doing back here?”
“I’ll be working here from now on,” the stranger says. “Kim Kibum. It’s nice to meet you.”
“Ohh.” Ryeowook relaxes a little, and bows. “Kim Ryeowook. I hope we can work well together”

And work well together they do. They’re not quite friends yet, just-despite how pretentious it sounds-colleagues, waiting tables at a small corner café.
“I’m going to be away this weekend,” their boss tells them one day. “So you two will be taking care of the shop for the weekend.”
“Alright,” Ryeowook says. “We can handle it.” And he thinks he can, because it’s not really that busy or anything-right?
Wrong.
“Wait a second, please!” Kibum calls out to the table that just came in (no, seriously, where are they all coming from anyways?!) as Ryeowook rushes to fill everyone’s order. He’s literally flying between tables as fast as he can without spilling anything, and by mid-afternoon he’s ready to sleep on his feet.
“I just want to sleep now,” he grumbles to Ryeowook. “Why did everyone decide to come here today anyways?”
Ryeowook spots a newspaper lying on the counter. He picks it up, and it’s open at the restaurant reviews page.
He whistles. “Look, we got full marks.”
“What the hell?”
“Here.” He hands him the paper. “Apparently we’re quaint and cosy.”
“So,” Kibum says with distaste, “the whole rush today was because of a good review. Right?”
“I guess?” Ryeowook says.
“Fucking publicity,” Kibum curses.
