Title: The Megane Club (Or: Myopia)
Fandom: Prince of Tennis
Characters/Pairings: Tezuka/Ryoma, Inui, Oshitari/Gakuto
Genre: Gen
Notes: See, Yagyuu was supposed to appear in this, but... I wasn't too acquainted with RikkaiDai at that point. -_-; Still. I love my megane.
Tezuka
Tezuka has tried contact lenses -- he has. Really, they're not bad or anything, and his vision is the same as when he wears glasses. Better, even, because there aren't those blurry blind spots around the frames. And they don't slip or fall off or anything. But... they just don't feel right. Glasses, light and unobstructive though they may be, have a certain weight to them, a certain feel.
And there are certain habits that come with wearing glasses. The first week with contacts is the week that he realizes his habit of constantly adjusting his vision because he catches himself pressing up imaginary frames with the tips of his fingers. He fins himself reaching up to pull off air whenever he is tired and exasperated and his eyes need a rest from the world.
But it isn't until after Echizen gives a sort of whining, "Buchou, I miss your glasses," that he puts his contacts away for good.
Inui
Inui has never tried contact lenses and he doesn't want to. He likes his privacy, his inscrutability. He likes being unpredictable because no one can see into his soul. Glasses give him an air of mystery, of cool. And they give him a sense of security.
By now, Inui has little marks where his glasses are used to resting, little grooves on each side of the bridge of his nose, smoothed skin where the ear meets the face. He never changes the frames, but the prescription just gets worse and worse -- his optometrist tells him that he should stop sitting in front of the computer screen night and day, stop reading so much, stop writing in his notebooks ever minute of the day.
When people tell him he's going to go blind, Inui just adjusts his glasses on the bridge of his nose and hides his fear that they're right with a smile and a glass of his new creation.
Oshitari
Oshitari doesn't actually need glasses -- they look good, that's all, and they serve a purpose of making him more interesting. It stands to reason that he doesn't need contact lenses either.
It comes to him as an awful shock, then, when he realizes that he does need glasses because all of a sudden, the ball is fuzzier than usual, and Gakuto's smile is a little strange-looking -- not quite as clear as it used to be or something. So very, very discreetly, Oshitari replaces the false glass in the round, golden frames with real glass and begins to see clearly once more. Until, that is, Gakuto's loose grip sends his glasses to the floor, the lenses shattered by the racket, and he feels blind as a fucking bat.
Gakuto giggles his pretty little head off.
