I was checking your LJ with anticipation and fear every day. Hoping desperately for the conclusion, but fearing not having this to look forward to any more!
Once I got over my sobs that this AU is no more, I really got to appreciate your realism.
Leaving loose ends made the story feel real. Not allowing everything to be perfect made it feel real. Actually, I know this is a bit of a oxymoron, but the lack of perfection is what made it feel perfect. The way they both wanted so badly to work through the bad, awkward parts, just showed how much they did love each other. After all, love isn't about how you react to the warm, fuzzy stuff but what you do/feel when it's crap.
I could sense real, long lasting affection throughout this between them. And already they're together for a couple of years! Sigh!!
Also loved the way it felt so domesticated, and yes, married! Alex desiring closeness to his Dad was made of win. And the gradual realisation of just what they have, culminating in Arthur's "it's not bad at all." completed it.
This AU feels like a canon series itself, that could spawn fangirls and fanfic! I will eagerly keep checking for new stuff from you.
Right, I'll shut up and go to bed now. The queen of ranting rambling has spoken!
If you ever feel inspired to write a fanfic with this, I will love you forever. It's a huge compliment when someone says that. I started this as a little project, and it really got blown out of proportion, but I think it's mostly in a good way XD.
I think realism is good in any fanfic, especially since it's an AU, so in some ways, I think people expect twice as much...but that's just imho.
