TWD 2x11 - Judge, Jury, Executioner

Mar 05, 2012 22:51

...or how I like to call it: the ep where they pretend to make decisions but then change their minds every 5 minutes Because Of Humanity.

(here there be spoilers!)
the good:
  • Daryl!
  • sleeveless Daryl!

the not-so-good and the bad: (...everything else *g*)
  • Daryl as the brutal torturer?! He's better than that! I mean I think he's totally capable of doing whatever is neccessary to survive, but this? Please let there be a *very good* reason... :|
I hate it how they always exaggerate the sound effects in fights; everytime Daryl lands a punch it sounds like he smashed Randall's head in, but then we see he just has some bruises and a bleeding nose
and in the next scene not even that (and his leg doesn't seem to hurt at all?) - did Daryl stitch him up and wipe his face clean afterwards?
  • dear Rick: you made a decision. Fine. But why the delay for the execution? Why NOT JUST DO IT, SO IT's DONE???
  • didn't notice before, does Shane always carry his pistol in the typical "shoot your own family jewels off" position (tucked into the waistband)?
  • why does Rick want to hang Randall? is that supposed to be more humane than shooting? (it's not) Saving ammunition?
  • Carol! and she even speaks! :)
...and overreacts a bit. Carl wasn't exactly being nice, but complaing about his behaviour with his parents? come on.
  • Dale: I don't agree with him, but he's got some balls going through with this and talking to everybody, especially to Shane. Shane thinks so too. And then they have a calm discussion. Me likey. (okay this could go to the "good" list, but I'm to lazy to change it)
  • Rick and Lori having a talk:
"it's not easy" - no it's not, and it's not supposed to be! But all the waiting and changing your mind doesn't make it better or easier, for anybody involved!
"you don't have to do it - let Shane, Daryl do it" - because they don't have a conscience/already blood on their hands, or what? (...or because Lori knows that Rick doesn't have the balls?)
  • Carl + Zombie: Carl taunting the zombie is just mean. And extremely stupid. When the zombie got free, I was rooting for it to bite Carl. And I don't feel bad about it.
  • ....aaaaand another group discussion. Blablabla.
"It's gonna be a lean winter" + "He could be an asset" => perfect solution: eat him! :D
  • Daryl: "we're talking in circles." YES! EXACTLY! STOP WITH IT ALREADY! EITHER KILL HIM, OR DON'T, BUT MAKE A FUCKING DECISION (oh, I forgot you already did, last ep, and then again at the beginning of this ep) AND STICK WITH IT!!!!
  • Execution scene: Nobody but Rick, Shane and Daryl wants to get their hands dirty - or were they told/asked to stay back? don't remember.
Shane breaks into song to calm down Randall: "Relax, don't do it. When you want to go to it" *g*
aaaaand then... Rick doesn't-do-it again. AAAAAARRRGGGGHHHHH! I can't. I just can't. *throws hands into air*
  • oh Dale. I was spoilered muchly, so I knew you wouldn't stay with the show forever, but am still sad. :(
  • Rick can only shoot the good guys, or what?
No, not even that. Daryl has to do it. *sigh*
I'm not really happy with this ep's Daryl, but: HE DOES STUFF instead of just talking about it like Rick (and then changing his mind again and again).

So, I guess this ep was supposed to be about dealing with Moral Dilemma's, them against us, kill another human being because he might pose a threat, how to keep their humanity?
To me it was all about talking things to death (no pun intended), about stalling and waiting instead of sticking with your decision.
Seriously, I liked Rick at the beginning, I liked that he stopped to think before acting, and I still think that's the right way (...if you have the time to think). But the way he is now - making decision, and then reconsidering everything again and again, the more I think Shane is the sane one and Rick the delusional one.
