I'm in Florida. In discussion groups today, my students came up with the following:

No, society shouldn't provide health care to children

convicted felons shouldn't be allowed to vote AND taxation without representation is wrong

Parents who can't afford health care for their children should be castrated

Please, get me the hell out of here.

The new law has been popularized in the media as being legally allowed to shoot to kill when you feel threatened. That's not quite it.

Normally, you have a legal duty to retreat when someone is trying to kill you, rather than respond with lethal force in kind. This is why you can kill an intruder in your home, but not a mugger on the street. (In your home, you've already retreated as much as possible.) In Florida, there is no longer a duty to retreat.

Without the media misrepresentation of this law, I don't think it would be a bad thing... but the fucking rednecks around here don't understand, and half of them just think you're allowed to kill people who piss you off, now.

Anyway, I came up with an ingenious perversion use of the law. Next time I see someone driving a Hummer(tomorrow, no doubt), and have a gun(most likely, never), I will shoot them in the face. When the police arrive, I will report that the driver was attempting to give me lung cancer with their excessive auto emissions.

That line of reasoning should technically work in defense of killing anyone driving an automobile, but it's most clear in the Hummer case.
