Once upon a time, there was the Littlest Bass Drum.
For the longest of times, the Littlest Bass Drum did not know that she was a Bass Drum. She thought she was a Flute. She struggled through many years of Band, often suffering from the bitchiness of other Flutes, for being bitchy is their favorite pastime. When given the choice, she would play the Second Flute part, as the lower notes resonated with something deep inside her that yearned for lower frequencies. For several dark years, she did not participate in Band at all!
One day, as she was standing in a large grassy area pretending to be an Electronic Guitar, she heard something! It was the beatings of other Bass Drums, calling her home!
She walked over and started talking to the Biggest Bass Drum, who was very friendly, and explained how she did not realize until now that she, indeed, was a Bass Drum. He agreed to let her join their tribe, but told her that "since you are the Littlest Bass Drum, you will not be able to march with us during Halftime. You will need to play in the stands."
The Littlest Bass Drum was discouraged, but resolved to Practice and Practice until she was big and strong enough to march! Maybe some day, she will even not be the Littlest of the Bass Drums!
So the Littlest Bass Drum went to Practice for the first time with the other Bass Drums last night. They were very kind, and even though there was no Specific Part for the Littlest Bass Drum, they allowed her to play along with the Second Littlest Bass Drum, and watch and learn from him. At first she had trouble - the stick would hit the side of the drum instead of the Boom Part, and she had trouble keeping up. By the end, she was starting to get the hang of it.
What will happen to our Littlest Bass Drum? Stay tuned to find out!
