wedding

Last weekend I went to my cousin Zachary's wedding. I flew out on Thursday around 6:30 pm, yet the seats in my half-puddlejumper were still full. Fortunately it was a direct flight to Baltimore. I got in and met up with Aunt Trish and Uncle Walt around 10, was in Havre de Grace by 11:30, and in bed by 12:30.

The next day we set off for Norfolk. I rode in Aunt Cathy's car with Lisa, one of my cousins, and we semi-caravaned with Aunt Trish and Uncle Walt. On the way down we passed many stores bearing the name "Happy Harry's Discount Drugs", which amused us greatly. We'd gone down the eastern shore of the Chesapeake, so we got to go over that huge bridge-tunnel complex that you can only partially see on google maps because they suck.

We got to the hotel and I met up with my dad and brothers. Turns out Mom didn't pack EITHER of the dresses I was considering for the wedding, and instead sent down an outfit that she saw and thought would look "so cute" on me. Whatever. Fortunately I'd packed at least one set of nice clothes, so I wore that to the rehearsal dinner.

And by "rehearsal dinner" I mean "awesome buffet and open bar at this restaurant overlooking the port of Norfolk". Lisa, Alex and I grabbed an outside seat and I took advantage of the open bar, trying out any martinis with "chocolate" or "Irish cream" in the ingredients list. It was a fun evening and I was pleasantly tipsy by the end.

The next day I went down to Aunt Cathy's room to visit with her and Daniel's family. Alicia remembered me and for the first time said "Jill!" and wanted me to pick her up when she was being held by someone else. She is so goddamn cute. Lisa, Daniel and I walked over to the mall that was right next to the hotel and wandered around. I got to see an iPhone, but I didn't think it was anything special. I bought a (way overdue) birthday present for someone, but they're going to have to wait until we're both back in Worcester.

The wedding was at four in the afternoon. I got roped in at the last minute to hand out programs, but it wasn't that bad. The ceremony was kind of quiet, it seemed to me, though they did play a flute solo of "Seasons of Love" and mixed their Lego collections. The reception had lots of really nice food, but the alcohol selection was not nearly as broad as it had been the night before. I came up with an idea for a new drink, a Captain Jack Sparrow (Captain Morgan + Jack Daniel's + amaretto (because he's NUTTY, get it)), but was unable to test it as there was no amaretto. So I drank beer and mojitos instead, and vodka mojitos after the rum ran out (WHY IS THE RUM ALWAYS GONE). There were several fun party favors, including one of those beer holder thingies that said "Zach and Blair's Wedding: To Have and to Hold and to Keep Your Beer Cold". I also got to teach Kelly the Macarena, and she had a blast. All in all, a very nice wedding.

The next day we had to get up early to make it from Norfolk to Baltimore in time for me to catch my plane home. That ride was not so pleasant. Not only did my "window seat" completely lack a window, they expected me to pay for those tiny little airplane snacks, and the flight attendant forgot to give me my drink. Not flying NWA again if I can help it.
