Easter 2006: Hippity hoppity

Apr 18, 2006 20:51

Easters in Edinboro have always been some of my favorite times. The campus is usually barren, and the weather warm and sunny. I love it, because for four of five years, I've spent the holiday with people who make the weekend memorable. This year even had a special guest -- my brother.

I woke up early (9 a.m. is considered "early," right?) to color eggs with Sio -- as is our tradition. The morning was lovely, and we dyed and drank coffee in the cool, sun-lit lobby. The activity itself delighted me more than usual as well, because apparently the PAAS egg-coloring-kit company decided to add three additional colors of dye -- red, lime green, and teal. Oh, happiness. Below are pictures of our last batch of Easter eggs together. (Thank you Aaron for getting re-dressed before your shower just to come take your bossy girlfriend's photo.)

Aaron and I awoke around 9:30 a.m. and dressed for church. But not before we checked to see if the Easter Bunny came. She did! And she brought a basket full of chocolate for my Dobler! The Bunny even snuck in a (not so) surprise present -- the new Flaming Lips album. I guess she knew how incredible Aaron's been these past few weeks with me being sick and such. He'll be on a sugar high for weeks. And for me? Oh yesss, the Bunny brought season five of "Six Feet Under."

After church, which I tried not to mock, really, we walked home and waited for Zachary. He arrived around one, dressed to impress. I had promised him we would dress-up for dinner, because he, Aaron and I are all about formalwear. Aaron changed into his brown suit, and we were off to Outback Steakhouse.

Rachel says, "Pretend you're saying something interesting to me."
Zachary says, "This crouton is delicious."

Zachary says, "We're ordering appetizers -- ALL the appetizers."
Rachel says, "I thought you didn't like onions, Aaron?"
Dobler says, "You're forgetting that I'll eat anything fried."

Zachary says, "It's no Lousianna Purchase (32 oz.), but I can handle it (20 oz.)."

Rachel says, "Do you want a bite of my steak?"
Dobler says, "Of that bloody piece of meat? No. It looks like a cancerous lung."

Rachel and Aaron say, "We're adorable."

Zachary says, "Cha-ching! Easter dinner courtesy of our mother!"

Zachary says, "Take a picture of me looking contemplative."
Rachel says, "You have a pig-nose, adjust your hand. OK, better."

Zachary and Dobler say, "Just as we finished our business transaction, someone popped out of a trap door and took our picture."

Rachel says, "By the way, what do you think of my new, dark hair color?"

Rachel and Zachary say, "It's too bright."

We stopped at Walmart on the way back to Edinboro, bought a card for a friend and walked aimlessly up and down the office supply aisles looking for brass fasteners for Aaron. By the end, I was a bit irritated, but we came home, took more pictures and watched "Mystery Science Theater 3000: Red Zone Cuba."

And now, Rachel and Zachary present ... A Scene

Zachary says, "Look at that interesting thing over there."

Rachel says, "Hmm. Let's ponder it."

Rachel and Zachary say, "Hahaha! That thing is so funny."

Dobler says, "Now re-do the scene without a flash."
Rachel and Zachary respond.

OK, I lied. Aaron watched MST3K. Zachary and I napped.
