Today was Easter, and it was a very "hoppy" (that's "happy" in obnoxious Easter-speak) day.
As predicted, I spent the day with Aaron.
We started by going to church.
I am not churchy. I actually don't think I've been to a service in two and a half years. Not to say that I don't have faith, but I don't get much from sermons. I used to go to mass at home, and I never paid attention. I'd get bored and think about anything but church - most likely sex.
Also, church itself weirds me out. I don't know why, though. I get nervous and jumpy and awkward. April dragged me to a crusade meeting two years ago when she was crushing over this one Christian boy, and it was a traumatic experience. Jesus people everywhere. When we got seated, she leaned toward me and whispered, "I wasn't going to tell you this, but there's a point where everyone goes around and introduces themselves and gives hugs." I almost started crying. I hate to be touched. She tried to comfort me with assurances that I could refuse hugs, but those were all lies. I got hugged by Jesus people for five minutes straight.
The last issue is that I didn't realize how much of a Catholic I was (am) until today, when I went to a non-Catholic church.
All that said, I had a really good time, even if there was a group of SINGING CHILDREN (um, vomit). I'd do it again. It felt nice to do something traditional for the holiday. And I got to see/hear Aaron in dressy clothes playing bass.
After church Aaron came over. It's a good thing he did, too, because the Easter Bunny had brought him a kick-ass basket full of chocolate fudge PopTarts, a chocolate rabbit and a bottle of Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper. Aaron told me that he would absolutely not accept any presents and would, consequently, throw anything received away. The Bunny knows Aaron's weaknesses, though, because she is the best girlfriend ever.
And for me the Bunny left two Flaming Lips albums. Awesome.
We decided to eat Easter dinner at Burger King. Get it? King. Christ. Anyway, we walked the whole way to Burger King, but it was closed. I was a bit put out, because Aaron loves that place and I had psyched myself up for onion rings. No problem - we ate at McDonald's.
