Rachel: This is good pie. Good. Pie.
Zachary: Goodbye? Goodbye!
Thanksgiving Day was a very good day for me.
I awakened early (ok, 8:45 a.m.) to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade - a T-Day tradition I have perfected as I sit on the couch in my thermal pajamas and eat sugar pie. The first hour of the parade is my favorite, because that is when new Broadway musicals are performed. However, the musicals this year made me cringe. I do not want (nor does theatre need) a show based around Elvis or Beach Boy music. The remainder of the parade proved lame and commercial (of course), but that hasn't changed from every other year, so I wasn't complaining. Plus, Katie Couric and Matt Lauer's zings at one another amused me. (I have not once mention the parade's location - Oh, New York...)
At noon we went to my grandmother's for dinner. We were missing three people (Aunt Carol, Uncle Joey and JoeTorrero), so seating was spacious (despite the 11 other people). I had waited weeks for this meal. I was not disappointed. My plate was very colorful - like a painter's palette - with tiny servings of everything except a roll ("I can't be wasting stomach space on bread!"). Kinda wish I had a picture of it.
I had to stretch out in a chair after dinner for a good hour. You know, so I could breathe. Uncle Dave then convinced me and Gram to play Yahtzee. I lost, but I blame my blinding stomach ache. I recovered, though, just in time for pumpkin pie.
The day faded out from there, just sitting around Gram's dining room table with family and watching television at home in my mother's bedroom with Zachary. I'm thankful.
