Odd question about tails

I know that most people make tails without mechanisms inside and the way people walk and the lightness of the tail will make it move pretty realistically (hip-shaking FTW ( Read more... )

I got a message that this comment was marked as spam (probably due to the links) so I'm not sure it's actually visible to anyone else. :/

Edited version:
I've thought a lot about this since I have a naga-ish character I'd love to have a rarsuit of, but I can't think of any practical way to do the tail. Even just those long draggy tails you wear can trip people up (I know, I almost tripped over/stepped on a few at FC) and I can just see a huge snake body being a disaster to try and do much in.

That being said, here's a few people I've seen with naga cosplay that look like they just use the dragging method:
(look up naga cosplay blizzcon on google images)

For something that long, I think you might need to rely on puppetry (eg, have strings going through the thing you can pull so it bends to one side or another, a bit like how blinds work) or a crazy animatronic/pneumatic setup. Wheels/rubber might be asking for trouble since it'll catch or move across different surfaces unpredictably (carpet vs pavement vs smooth tile floors etc) plus make it a lot heavier.

Thanks for posting, even if LJ was giving you grief over links. I tried looking up Naga cosplay, but I wasn't getting anything (my settings have been acting odd and blocking things lately), but adding blizzcon really helped!

Yeah, I was thinking the rubber/wheels ideas just weren't going to be great long term options.

For the record, I managed to get a ticket to SDCC and am trying to figure out if I want to make this character for the masquerade (making a list of costume options to pick from and trying to determine the time each will take and if I can finish them by the deadline):

As you can tell, that tail is stumping my "I can do this" attitude.
