Are offers matched on and/or?

Eg if I request A, B, and C, will I only be matched to someone offering A, B, and C (and required to write them)? Or can I be matchd to someone who offered any combination of A, B, and C?

Matching works as AND for requests and as OR for Offers.

If you request A and B, your potential author has to have offered at least A and B or any to match with you. They could also have offered A, B and C. If they only offered A, they won't match to your request.

If you offer A, B and C, you can be matched to anybody requesting A, B, C, AB, AC, BC, ABC or any. You won't match to someone requesting A, B, C and D; or A and D; or A, B and D. You get the idea.

Are you sure that's how it works?

With the fandoms all smushed together, I just asked for three Marvel characters together, but they're from disparate parts of canon, and the chances of anyone offering all three of them at once is pretty low. Someone would have to offer ALL of them to to be matched with me, not just one? I'd be happy if they wrote any one, really.

It won't let me split my request to ask for two in one place and one in another, it says I can only ask for each fandom once.

Yes, that's how it worked since the introduction of challenges. To the frustration of some Yuletide participants.

To allow the fandom to be requested more than once, there's a setting for challenges, but I'm not sure the mod would like to deal with the potential fallout from removing that restriction, since it would allow people to request the same fandom for all prompts.

Couldn't they just promise not to, like in yuletide?

Nobody promises for Yuletide, Yuletide runs with unique fandom restriction in place.

Ah.

-sighs-

It's absolutely no fault of the mods, but comics fans seem to have gotten uniquely screwed over this year.

And, I'm copy and pasting here:

Actually, looking at challenge settings, the archive is actually able to do something like an OR matching.

Sorry for the misinformation. Depending on the settings the archive can match A, B, C, D requests to A, B, E, F offers. Just tested that.

Came as bit of a surprise.

Mine too.

And I had fun figuring out what the sign ups should look like to test that.

I didn't know that, either. That's difficult and disappointing. That prevents players from giving writers the broad latitude that was possible in last year's game, and severely confines the number of possible matches... to the point where I can name now the person I'd be matched with (very small fandoms, you know).

Given this, I think that I may not play after all.

Aww, that'd be a pity. I'm in small fandoms as well, I knew the last two years which fandoms my Yuletide stories would be in. For me it's the excitement of getting a story I haven't read yet. Especially a story in a small fandom I usually don't get any fic for.

I'm kind of hoping that I'll get matched on a larger fandom (which I love and totally want fic for), but someone might be impressed by my overwhelming enthusiasm for my wee teeny fandoms, and at least check out the canon.
